My mother f***ing cat brought in a god damn Cardinal. It's still alive, its wing is broken. The kitten was messing around with it when I got up, so I threw him in the cage and sat around trying to figure out what to do. I was going to put the bird in a box, but it scurries away if I try to touch it, so now it's between the dresser and the wall, and I can't really get to it. So I kinda just closed that area off so the cat can't get to it... I don't know what to do.
I'm really pissed at my cat. They're supposed to kill the bird before bringing it in as a present, I wouldn't have liked that either, but at least it would have been out of its misery. Now it has to suffer down here in a cold icky basement with two cats that want to play around with it.
This is really sad. It's just a poor little Cardinal ;_;

I'm kind of jealous that you have cardinals where you live. I live in a big dirty city where all I ever see are aggressive pigeons and the occasional sparrow.
Anyway, I don't think you will be able to heal it, if this article is any indication, and apparently it may be illegal for you to even try. http://www.wild-bird-watching.com/Injured-Bird.html I suggest following the article's advice and taking it to a wildlife rehabilitation center.
I checked a couple other sites from the search results and they all said basically the same thing.
From: WazzupGenius00 | #007 They're the state bird of like five different states--I know Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana for sure, but I think there are others too
Virginia, too, if I remember my elementary school education correctly

It looked like it was, because of its frayed look, the bird looked really messed up. But I guess it was just dislocated or something and it healed after a few hours.
So, it's up in a complicated corner of the basement right now, it took me a while to find him. The thing is, he's right next to one of those basement type windows that I managed to open, and I even threw a piece of bread out there, he won't go for it. He's staying put.
COME ON MAN. Freedom is RIGHT THERE!
Maybe he thinks it's a trap or something. Stupid bird.

Yeah if it was a dog it probably only would've bitten halo's neighbor in the leg or something and instead of dealing with a hurt bird he would only have to deal with a lawsuit

The problem is, my cat was an indoor cat until somewhat recently, when he figured out how to use the doggy door. He's suddenly become an outside cat, which I don't like at all. Can't really do anything about it though.
My kitten is still indoor, but he's only a kitten, and I'm afraid he'll eventually wander outside too, which I really don't want to happen. Dammit.

We got it out. My uncle had a net that we used, well my little cousin used with expert aim, to catch the bird, and we set it free outside. Its tail feathers are damaged, so it can't fly well, but we let it loose in another yard and it chose some weeds and stuff to hide in... hopefully it'll be okay.

I live in St. Louis, so we also have the baseball team.
The bird kind is much cuter.
