so basically: black guys dig white chicks, a third of old people are socially in the 1960s, a quarter of the south hasn't lost their roots (possibly to do with the old people again), any amount of college makes you better, and for some reason independents outdo democrats socially.

Dumb people are more likely to align themselves with a political party since you have to think to actually say you're an independent (then again they do have the people that want to be different which doesn't take much thought either)

TBQH the numbers are probably inflated to a degree. Even if you don't actually approve, you're more likely to lie and say you do to appear to have more socially acceptable views than the other way around.

You also have to think about the people that feel it is alright just as long as it isn't their family.

I knew parents who said they were okay with gay people, but went nuts when they found that their child was gay.

Eh. I have known plenty of the opposite though: people who had anti-gay views until they had a gay child. People have the views they have, and circumstances may make them change, but this doesn't mean they were lying when they gave the responses they did at the time.

Also surveys like this tend to have anonymity to cut down on the "but but people will think I'm a bigot!" effect. I say "tend to" because I haven't actually looked at this one specifically.

In bible times it was more about religion. Since the jews had a religion that was inclusive in their race, they were discouraged from marrying outside their ethnic group so as to avoid conflict.
