It was already pretty wonky to begin with.

On my way to the next town, I ran into like 3 or 4 battles within 10 steps, but then when I ran all the way back to heal and save, nothing.

Well, if you don't mind a lot of grinding you'll be able to get through the game. I had played Earthbound first and thought Mother was really disappointing.

It's a below-average game by the end, for sure. (Itoi said that they had to rush at the end and didn't get to test the last areas for balance, and it really shows.

My favorite moment in all of the series happens in Mother, though.
