I went to the nearest person I could find. The Goron was slouched over, and looked like nothing more than a large rock. When I approached, it sat up and looked at me mournfully. Then it slouched right back down. It mumbled something about how depressed it was and how it longed for... Something about forest I think. I could barely hear it. It didn't respond to anything much after that. What on earth could make the Gorons this way?

A: Ask the leader of the Gorons what's happening
B: Talk to the shopkeeper
C: Go to the goron mines
D: Go to the volcano crater

There's a few more gaps in my archives now. And soon we'll be past where I've ever gotten and I'll write it as I go! Exciting stuff!

I think that it'd be best to ask the person most likely to know the most, and so I went to talk to Darunia. He was smashing at a stone wall, for some reason, and several Gorons were watching expectantly. I walked up, and asked what was wrong. "We're hungry. Someone took all our bombs, even the bomb flowers! Tunneling in our own caves is dificult, it's hard stone. Takes more energy to mine than it gives us back. The Dodongo Cavern have softer stone, but everyone who enters doesn't come back. And those were Gorons of the highest calibur, armed with the most powerful weapons he have! There shouldn't be anything they couldn't handle. We need to get our bombs back, or get access to the Dodongo Cavern. I'd go to there myself, but at this of all times, I can't leave. Not without my idiot sworn brother coming in and stealing the stone of fire." Well then. I tell them what I know about the incoming attack, but I'm cut off by Darunia. "Can't you see we're in no shape for fighting? Even our power doesn't work on an empty stomach! Now get out of here, or give me a solution." It looks like words are useless here... The other Gorons look at me, obviously depressed, and Darunia's foul mood wasn't helping. What next?

A: Go to the volcano crater
B: Go to the mines (Dodongo Cavern)
C: Talk to the shopkeeper
D: Try to cheer the Gorons up

I think the best way to help the Gorons is to pull them out of this slump. I ask around, trying to figure out what could do so, and it turns out that the Gorons love to dance. Trying to get them to dance in these times seems dificult, but I can do this. The key to dancing is music, and I'm great with that. I get up in the center of the cave, and start to play.

V > < V > <

The Gorons look up, Saria's song reverbrating around the caves. Soon all the Gorons have gathered. As I hoped, they started to dance. Soon the whole place was shaking, it felt like a long, drawn out earthquake. I've never seen a sight to match hundreds of ultrastrong Gorons dancing like it was their last day in Hyrule, and it became the party to end all parties. All to soon, it ended, but the Gorons were happy and smiling again. They talked, and decided that they were going to do all they could to make the coming battle one to remember, and fortifications were swiftly built, with laughter flowing all the while. I was clapped on the back (which nearly broke my spine, I swear) and hailed as the greatest person ever. I resounding cheer wen't up, I was one of them. The shopkeep walked up, and gave me the Goron bracelet and a red tunic, and I joined the festivities. It was glorious! But soon, more time was spent building walls than cheering, and it was time for me to move on to other things.

If I'm looking for food for them, then clearing the mines is a priority. So I head down the mountain to the entrance. When I get there, I'm greeted by a strange sight. The main entrance to the cave has been sealed up, and a wide, circular tunnel has been carved around the whole place. A low rumbling is coming from within. I step inside to take a closer look, and heavy iron bars fall behind me, trapping me inside. The rumbling draws closer, and a masive mechanical beast is lumbering towards me

Boss Battle
Link's Gaurdian, the Masked Mechanical Monster
Goht

The thing is running straight for me, running faster than something of it's size should. I duck, and roll out of its way, my armor blocking the rocks thrown in its wake. It lumbers past, then turns to face me. Oh hell.

A: Attack at range
B: Attack up close
C: Run

Oh hell indeed. It's not enough a giant thing is chasing me but I'm also confined. I need time to make sense of its attack patterns. Time is a commodity precious enough that I don't have much of it but if I can just run like hell for a few seconds I might stand a chance. I need to know what makes this thing tick.

I'm horribly outclassed here, I need to get the hell out of here, now! This is really bad. I turn around and run as fast as I possibly can. The thing is faster than me though, and I only barely manage to roll out of the way before I get run over. As it goes by, a shower of rocks beats me from head to toe, and by the time I get to my feet it's turned around, and charging at me. I can't dodge, I can't fight, I can't-

And that's when Darunia crashed into the beast along with a bunch of other Gorons. The combined strike knocked it back, but the metal armor of the beast blocked the damage. It stepped back, then charged forward, goring many of the assembled Gorons. Darunia rallied them, and they fought hard. The beast had many a trick up it's sleeves, and eventually, I was knocked out cold by a stalactite seemingly formed at the will of the beast. When I awoke, Only a third of the Gorons still stood, and Darunia was slouched against the wall, injured. The beast had been slain at a terrible cost. When I asked Darunia why he had come to my aid, he smirked.
"I'm not about to let the mighty Goron race be shown up by a pink skin."
But the two of us were in no shape to do anything... We were taken away by a couple of the Gorons and those who remained got to work smashing up rock to feed the hungry massses. Darunia immediately went to sleep upon returning. One of the Gorons we had left behind returned, said something quickly to many of the remaining soldiers, and they all ran out. Probably just going to help mine... Soon the food flows in, along with reports that the mines had concealed a seige battery, a mass of powder keg loaded catapults. Though some of the Gorons had died in the battle against the soldiers defending them, far more would have died had they fired. The Gorons had food, and the king's plan had been nipped in the bud. The hard meal made the Gorons feel better physically, but the knowledge that they're about to be attacked by an enemy strong enough to beat Darunia is putting a damper on their spirits. As for myself? I'm too beaten up to do anything more for today... I slip into a painful sleep.

When I woke up, I ached but I was ready to face the day. It turned out Darunia had healed up enough to walk around as well (though fighting was out of the question). He waved me over. "We're going to show the Hylians the true power of the Gorons, let me tell you. I had my doubts about you at first, but I can see you have the spirit of fire burning in you. I'd like you to take this into battle, seeing how I can't use it now." He pulled out a huge freaking hammer. Even with the bracelet, it was hard to weild. But it was more powerful than anything else in my arsenal.

Item Get: Megaton Hammer

Darunia smiled, and pulled out a set of drums. Before I could ask why, he told me to pull out my ocarina. We played together, the song bringing a heat to the room I couldn't explain

V A V A > V > V

When we finished, he laughed. "Most fun I've had in years. That song, play it when you run into something too strong to face. Just don't use it on my brother, that'd fail badly." Knowing the power of the king, I earnestly promised him I wouldn't. Alright, the battle is today. Time to prepare.

A: Check the newly built defences
B: Talk to the Gorons

I'm very likely not going to be on the front line here, and my best bet will be to fire arrows until melee has been met. Knowing that, the fortifications will be my lifeline. The Gorons have built them all along the walls of the cliff edge running along the path up the mountain. Any attackers wil have to go through there, being pelted with rocks until they meet the Goron's front line. The fortifications are strong despite their recent construction. While I'm up there, I notice a gleam of light from the base of the trail. The sun shines off the armor of the Hylian army as they march. They stop just out of range of the walls. Looking at them, it seems they're equiped with much heavier weapons than normal, but much lighter armor. They want to move fast, and hit hard. A perfect set up to fight the Gorons with. They're likely to attack soon, and to be honest I'm not sure why they're waiting...

And that's when everything went wrong. A massive explosion sounded from inside the mountain, and the shouts of panicked Gorons filled the air. The stolen bombs had all detonated at once, from within the crater. Lava spewed out, flooding the interior of Death Mountain, burning through Gorons like so much trash. While we were distracted by the burning apocalypse, the Hylians charged. The Gorons were rallying slowly. I have to think fast.

A: Play the Bolero of Fire against the incoming army
B: Rally the Gorons, and lead the charge
C: Stick to the plan, fire arrows.

We've been shaken badly, and our backs are now to a wall made of fires the Gorons themselves can't withstand. We have but one option, attack! I raise the Megaton hammer in the air, and wave it towards the charging foes. The Goron's rally around me, and press forward. The sudden charge takes the enemy by surprise, but that doesn't last long, and soo we're pushed back, hard. The enemy are lightly armored, but wield heavy weapons. They can manuever fast, and strike hard. I put away my hammer, and swing my sword endlessly. It seems hopeless, but the Goron's continue to rally behind me, and we push forward. Suddenly, the battlefield went silent. The charge stopped. The Hylians parted, and between their ranks rode up a nightmare. Link, mounted on his warhorse, had joined the battle.

As if we needed his help getting destroyed...

A: Try to shoot him down with your bow.
B: Play the Bolero of Fire
C: Leave him to the Gorons, focus on the soldiers.

Recent memories of the nightmare in the Woods haunt me in these few desperate seconds of indecision. Thus far my ocarina has proven useless against Link... but his ties to that place could well have been the cause of that song's ineffectiveness. Link is most certainly not Darunia's brother -- or if he is then this tale is even more confounding than I'll ever hope to comprehend.

Leaving Link to the Gorons seems a simple bet: death to the Gorons while I buy time to do... what exactly? No, it's not an option. And I lack the confidence in my skills with the bow to strike down even half the man the king so clearly is.

It's a rough patch regardless. But whatever the Bolero of Fire may do it's currently my only conceivable hope... because Link is too strong to face.

He's Darunia's sworn brother. Happened when he got the Stone of Fire in the game. But anyways...

Seeing a chance to take out the mad tyrant, and having little other option, I play my ace, the Bolero of Fire.

V A V A > V > V

Out of the volcano crater flew the giant flame dragon Volvagia, rushing towards Link in a torrent of flames. The Soldiers of the Hylian army stared as it scorched a path through the sky. Link looked up calmly, and drew his bow and ocarina. What he did next was hard to follow, and made little sense to me. He played a song I had never heard of, while drawing back his bow and attaching a powder keg to it that he seemingly pulled out of nowhere. By the time he had finished firing off three powder keg arrows, an Owl had appeared. It grabbed Link, and he took to the skies as the first arrow hit. The blast knocked Volvagia off balance, letting the other two hit. Before it recovered, Link was dropping down on it, master sword first. It struck the dragon right in the head, and Link rode it all the way down to the ground. When they landed, crushing Goron and Hylian alike, the sword went through, piercing Volvagia's brain. It thrashed around, killing people left and right. Finally, it was still, and Link pulled the sword out as if Volvagia was a great flaming pedestal, and laughed. Everyone was silent as the king wiped the blade off, and remounted Epona. The Gorons, hardy as they might be, were terrified by this reckless display of the king's prowess. He smiled a horrible smile, and the weaker willed of the Gorons turned and fled. I ran as well, though not back with the Gorons. This battle was over, and the only thing going through my head was thoughts of escape. I slipped out in the chaos, and found myself huddling in a corner of Kakariko village, desperately trying to hide from the world. The skies of Death mountain burned a fierce red that day, and not a single Goron survived... Weariness overcoming fear, I fell into a dark sleep...

Hey Jeff, just a hint from someone who has done more CYOAs.

Since the first battle song was to summon a temple boss which was completely worthless against Link, chances are that all of the battle songs would be the same. They are the songs for that areas dungeon and will be very effective but not against Link.

Anyway, I will definitely be getting in touch with you Jeffrey to play this again (probably a few times). Are there any big dfferences for New Game+?

Also, when you get this whole thing more or less written I would love to get a copy of everythign from you so I could run it with some of my friends. They would love this thing.
