Memories of Light and Waves is excellent. There are quite a few other gems in there as well.

I would say all of the non-lyrical music is good, but the Airship music is ass. Not fond of the random battle music that plays when you're chasing LeBlanc either. Way too fanfary...

Well, X-2 has some standout pieces, for sure.

But overall? It's not up to the Final Fantasy standard, at least for me.

What's so tragic about X-2's music is that the title screen music is absolutely amazing... and then it turns out it's the ONLY good song in the game...

Only great song in the game, but yeah.

The rest of the soundtrack is a mix of good, some bad, a couple of isolated gems, and a lot of mediocrity. Pretty much everything in-game pales in comparison to Memories of Light and Waves heh.

The battle system is pretty much X-2's only saving grace. I think everyone can agree on this.

I think that was the first time I had experienced hate.

Everyone complains about Malboros and I think I only faced one of 'em and either killed it or got away. What makes them so bad, anyways?

Oh gosh yes. Dearly Beloved is a track I can fall asleep listening to (I mean that in the best way). I can't decide whether I like the original best or the CoM rendition best. Defo not the KH2 version since I think they did a bit too much with it (but it's still good). Haven't played any other games in the series so I only know the three versions.

IIRC, they have a 1/3 chance to ambush you, and when they do, they ALWAYS open with Bad Breath, which dumps almost every status effect in the game on all your characters. And with everyone on Confuse and Berserk but unable to hit anything because of Darkness, all the while dying rapidly of Poison, you're basically screwed.

Malboros themselves, fought in the Calm Lands, are not hugely threatening. You need to hit them till a hidden counter reaches seven before they use Bad Breath, by which time they'll likely be dead. Great Malboros, on the other hand, are deadly. If encountered in the final dungeon before the point of no return, they do not have a 100% chance of an ambush, but everywhere else (Omega Ruins, final dungeon after point of no return) they do, even if you have Initiative equipped. They will always use Bad Breath on their first turn when they ambush. So if you encounter one without First Strike equipped, you're in big trouble.

confuse/beserk is the big one because your physical attack characters can frequently one hit KO your mages/thieves or even each other. stoneproof is also a must in this game as I've seen some enemies either petrify all of my characters in one attack, or petrify one of my characters so they shatter(the thing in baaj temple does this) and can't be revived. I thought this had something to do with it being an underwater fight but then it happened to me in an on land random battle...

If you get hit with Petrify underwater, your character automatically sinks to the bottom and shatters. If they get hit with it on land, they won't immediately shatter, but if they get hit with an attack, they will.

Seymour's second form tries to do this frequently. He'll hit a character with Break and then have that little parasite thing attached to it hit the character targeted with Break its next turn.

Also, Marlboros don't give you enough exp to even be worth the time. It's more efficient to just Flee from them.
