PSP if you're a game and you're not named Monster Hunter you're not selling

You say this like Mega Man games sell in the first place, regardless of platform. Most are lucky to sell a couple hundred thousand. Only ones that seemed to have done better in recent years are those Card battle ones for GBA

So you admit that they don't sell well in the first place, but then say putting them on the system which they sold worst on... Is a better idea?

The point of making a game with fan input is that you need a large userbase to draw from. People don't care about spending time making a game for a system they don't have, as is the case with the 3DS. PSP gives that, since it has almost 20 times as many owners in Japan as 3DS, and Japan is where most of the user input was from to begin with.

Plus the fact the previous two games were Playstation makes it an ideal fit.

So, just to clear this up, you're saying that instead of putting it on the successor to the handheld system where their games sold better... They should have put it on the system that is on its way out and they literally had to pretty much GIVE their last games away on.

Okay, cool.

I find it amusing you're arguing that putting it on a system that caused it to get canned due to lack of interest was a better idea, but whatever.

No. I'm arguing that, like usual, you have little to no idea what you're even talking about.

Internet response was big. They didn't even release Prototype to see what kind of actual sales response they could possibly get. It's an excuse that you're trying to cement into fact by then pushing the PSP of all systems as some huge game mover when we already KNOW that MM games sell the absolute worst on it.

If you mean the American PSP, sure. But I have a feeling you have no idea how big PSP actually is outside of the American market.

Dude.

Super Street Fighter 4 3DS sold better than at least one of the PSP MMs, and will probably end up selling better than the other by the time it's done.

You realize that that ALONE nulls your argument.

A game everybody and their mother already has

On a system that has barely caught on

Outsold an MM game on PSP.

Those are only American numbers I assume you are using (since VGChartz at least has no Japanese numbers for the PSP Mega Man remakes). If I had to guess, X remake sold at least 500-600k if you count the Japanese numbers as well, since it did 250k in America. Which is great for a recent Mega Man game.

And also, I would be surprised if a port of a game that sold almost 4 million copies DIDN'T outsell them. Theres a reason Capcom constantly puts out new ports... they are guaranteed sellers.

According to Inafune or whoever, when people were bugging him about a Powered Up sequel, he implied that both games didn't sell hardly at all in Japan, and so it was highly unlikely, even as much as he wanted to.

But even if you're generous and give it 500k.

It was outsold by Star Force games.

Star Force.

A great remake of probably the most popular MM

Outsold by Star Force.

And almost outsold by a port of a game everybody has on a system nobody has.

But now you're just being stubborn, so I'm done with the argument.

Isn't Starforce another one of those card games? Kids eat that stuff up which is why that became the only kind of Mega Man game Capcom made anymore in recent years

I actually have to agree with the conclusion to some degree. Mega Man platformers haven't passed a million sold since MMX, and have seen steady decline over time. The spinoffs hit their stride with the BN games and have also been going down from there. There just seem to have been too many years with too many new titles, not to mention all of the re-releases.

The Star Force games started off way better than Legends did, and they dropped really fast. If they have reason to believe that the game won't have stellar sales, and they do, they probably wouldn't put the effort into making it great themselves. In fact, that's probably why they went the fan approach - free labor. They need to back off a little bit, and trying to revive a spin-off that wasn't a huge success to begin with is not necessarily in the company's best interest. At least not now.

Maybe they don't need a hiatus as long as Street Fighter took, but there's been some definite overload. With Inafune gone now, it's time for a break.

Prototype version was a stupid idea, anyway.

It was a demo that you had to pay cash for. How is that an indicator of how many people are going to buy your game? At best, it only measures how big your obsessive and ravenous fanbase is.

It wasn't really a demo in the normal sense, though. It was its own game, more or less, kinda like what they did with Dead Rising having Case 0 and Case West. It was a "prologue," more or less, with a different character that lead up to what MML3 would be.

Even so, there's really no other way to look at a game titled the "Prototype Version."

The only positive thing coming off of the game's cancellation is that more people are starting to see Capcom's true colors.

to be fair to the PSP Mega Man games, those came out at a time that the PSP was doing really horribly in sales to begin with.
