I recently beat it after putting it off forever, and it was awesome. I remember reading a lot of hate comments towards it. That's one reason I had put it off for a while. I didn't think it was worth the time =/... I did hate the load times I guess.
It's bug-ridden and incomplete. For instance, a plot-critical item randomly disappeared from my inventory halfway through the game, leaving it unbeatable.
I never did go back to it.

Oh, a big machine with flashy lights. A big machine like that has me written all over it. Well, okay, it doesn't. But give me time... and a crayon --11th Doctor
I love the game as a whole. Most people just really hate the ending, me included, because it was obviously rushed and unfinished. Which is sad. You go through this huge, epic journey, only for it to just... end. No closure, no answers, nothing. It was a huge disappointment.
Even so, it's still a great game. It just could have been easily better if they just didn't rush to release it and delayed it in order to finish it.

It's developed by Obsidian, so it's bound to have bugs. There is at least one way I know of to trap yourself in a no win situation. The characters are actually stronger than the firsts, imo. But from what I understand 2 entire planets were cut out of the game.
I love that game. Never had a problem with not being able to finish it in my version, and I've played it a whole bunch. Still, I wish they'd been able to finish it and it disappointed me when I learned all that had been left out of it. Always a favorite game of mine.
Mods make both games a whole lot better too. There's restored content you can get for the second game, it isn't official of course, but it's still pretty good.
