Behind the stoned slacker persona, Trent is actually a really intelligent guy, as evidenced by his ability to go back and forth in verbal exchange with Daria, Jane, and Tom. Let's be honest, even a mindless crush has standards, and Daria would never have one on an idiot. Trent has some of the best one-liners in the series. He's relateable enough, as we all knew people exactly like this. Pretty smart, just not motivated to do much with it.
Yep, Daria is only third. She's a great character and all, and became the archetype of a certain mold that would become popular and really change the entire sitcom industry. She ends up losing out to the other two because of some consistency issues, particularly in the third season. Her self-righteousness is a little harder to swallow when she occasionally busts out the irrationality and vanity typical of all the other teenage girls that she's supposedly so different from.
Quinn is probably the character in the show who experiences the most growth, and yet, still retains her core persona and doesn't come across as some miraculous "oh cool I'm now changed forever" sort of deus ex machina moment. She's almost universally entertaining, and her shallowness is more of an art form that she has perfected rather than some sort of fundamental character flaw. Very fun to watch!
Jane is absolutely the best. She has the perfect level of ironic sarcasm that's more toned-back than Daria's often more direct and standoffish approach. She has about as much of Daria's best traits, but less of some of her worse ones. You get the feeling that while Daria can't help being an outcast, Jane totally could, but chooses not to. The show absolutely doesn't work without her, and the thought of Daria doing just fine in college without her is kinda unbelievable imho.
So, I just wanted to say that every disc has a picture of a character(s) on it, and I thought it was interesting how they picked...
Disc 1: Daria Disc 2: Jane Disc 3: Quinn and Trent Disc 4: Kevin and Britney Disc 5: Helen and Jake Disc 6: Stacy and Upchuck (!!) Disc 7: Jodie and Mack Disc 8: Mr. Demartino and Ms. Li

From: PAE for this PD | #317 Quinn and Trent? Have they ever met?
Yes! In Gifted, when Daria and the parents visit the private school, and Quinn gets kicked out of all her various friends houses and goes to stay with Jane. Trent refuses to call her by name and only calls her "Daria's sister" and is completely immune to her usual feminine wiles.
