don't they have to re-sign avery yet? They have like $500k of capspace left, might be waiting for someone to come grab him and they'll just use Rupp for that instead

they also didn't re-sign mccabe, meaning they have a ton of faith in their young D-core which clearly did fine last season

unfortunately avery and his ~$2M cap hit is still on the books for this coming season

Not too long ago I saw places like TSN speculating on what Canada's 2014 hockey roster may look like (if the NHL participates). I figured that I may as well take a stab at the U.S. roster. Obviously this far out it is hard to predict so go easy on me. Also, some positions were changed a bit to make the lines work.

That defense looks a little too offensive minded to me, besides Suter of course - good luck actually preventing any goals without him on the ice! Then again if Miller plays like he did in Vancouver then it doesn't matter who Team USA has on the back end. Myers and Whitney might also crack the roster. It's always hard to predict Olympic rosters this far in advance because things change a lot from year to year.

Not too long ago I saw places like TSN speculating on what Canada's 2014 hockey roster may look like (if the NHL participates).

Heads will roll if the NHL doesn't participate. It'll probably be on national news in Canada for about a month. It'll completely destroy any chance for the US to medal and Canada won't be looking too hot either, though we were still medalling during the no NHLers days (just no gold).

As for other countries Ovechkin has already said he'll be at Sochi no matter what so it'll be interesting whether he'll take a year off the NHL or negotiates ~3 weeks off midseason. Other Russians may also follow suit.

I agree. That was really stupid last time. I remember the Ducks were playing in the very last game before the break at 8pm EST which was less than 24 hours before the first Olympic game - and we had the most Olympians out of any team in the league.

Howard too low, and I can't see Byfuglien going. The D-core is going to be more kids that are going to be rookies this season. Speaking of which, you're lacking Myers. I like the Fowler/Carlson picks but I don't think both of them will go.

As far as forwards.... Sounds about right. I'm liking the quantity of rangers (go blue), but this is relying on Dubinsky getting better every year and growing into a 30 goal-scorer skin by then. Callahan is good not for his offense but for his intangible and PK. Who else on the PK... maybe Backes?

but yeah that's just from what we can see now. I'm putting money on a bunch of USA players that are rookies this year making a break for stardom like Kane did a few years back

Parise signed a 1-year deal today worth $6 million. The Devils say they are still working on a multi-year extension, but I think Parise will bolt if the Devils don't look like they will contend for the next few years.

I'm not lacking Myers. He's a traitor and plays for Canada internationally.

The D does have a lot of offensive players but Yandle has very underrated D skills and Erik Johnson is also solid in his own end. Goligoski isn't really a slouch either. Byfuglien needs to be there just for the dynamic offense he brings to the table. Not to mention his size.

It being played on international sized (lolol) ice will also make for some interesting decisions.

Lockes - I'd put Campbell at #1 if I thought he'd get solid playing time before then TBQH. Kid's a monster.
