Mostly it's like banging my head into a wall until everything clicks. I kinda just irrationally suspect that I am incapable of further learning up until I do actually learn, which is stressful. Brains should come with the equivalent of a muscle pump.

You would like to have a progress bar, or see the stat leveling up?

Yes, but inside my brain instead of on duolingo. Duolingo is like a mom that says everything you do is great. It lies.

It's interesting that I pretty much felt this related to learning a language while reading the OP, and then it turns out that's exactly what it's about

Go back and look at earlier lessons or whatever they call it.

Do one of them, and you'll see just how much better you've gotten since then.

A lot of people never feel like they're improving simply because they keep comparing where they are to where they want to be without realizing how far along the path they've already gone.

Duolingo is terrible. It's too gamified and monetized, and doesn't really "teach" anything. It's a glorified flash card app, but not a good one.

e.g. Trying to learn Hiragana through Duolingo is terrible. It doesn't really teach you properly. But you can actually learn it through apps on your phone, or at least use them as a basis/supplement.
