and how far off do you think it is? I'm thinking how cool video games would be if we had the Holodeck. I was just watching 3 Body Problem and something like that is in there. Got me thinking about how its probably not happening in my lifetime

Not like in Star Trek. But take VR and the advances in AI and were not that far off to something similar

I think I asked that once, and was told the simulation uses tricks to keep you walking in circles without knowing

It is vaguely referenced early on that the holodeck uses "other tricks", but that seems a bit silly when you consider the sheer scope of what it ends up getting used for at certain points. Like transferring the refugees of a dead planet to a new planet while tricking them into thinking they never left a single network of caves. >_>

But it does make sense for smaller scale scenarios like the Moriarty or detective noir modules

Probably an omni directional treadmill or something. It technically would keep you in the center while things appear to move around you.

Yeah, but Sony will overcharge for it and drop support after a year or two.

Most companies will quickly realize holograms are less efficient than a physical interface and dismiss them as gimmicky, but Nintendo will eagerly adopt it and shoehorn it clunkily into everything.

The floor is probably like a big treadmill. You're not moving as much as you think you are.

I don't think we'll ever get to full holodeck technology though. It very clearly utilizes replicator technology for things like food and water.
