After watching the movie I can't get it out of my head how similar the ending fanfare sounds to the music track that plays on finishing a mission in Star Fox 64. Have to imagine it was intentional in the latter's case.

Having actually never played much of Star Fox beyond a demo....I'll bite.

Star Fox 64's Katina level has a similar plot to the end of Independence Day. A large flying saucer like ship is about to destroy a base on the planet. The player needs to destroy 4 targets on the bottom of the ship to get the core to drop down. Destroy the core to win. If the player takes too long to do all this, the base is destroyed.
So the game definitely feels like it takes some inspiration from ID. But, I know little about music theory so I couldn't tell you how much this could plausibly extend to the generic victory theme. --- My bracket looked like random picks compared to his.
