Feels like every line is explaining the story and not just people talking

I just watched it last week.

Can you give an example of what you mean?

Aang monologues his entire motivation in the first episode. He doesn't do any of the fun stuff trying to avoid his responsibility. He just flat out says he's dodging right off the bat.

I'm not sure I understand the issue or your confusion?

They were rushing things to fit it all in eight episodes. Stuff like Aang's character suffered.

My biggest issue wasn't so much that it felt rushed, but rather it couldn't seem to decide on a tone.

They don't talk like people, they talk like exposition dumps. And sure, sometimes you need to fit in exposition in an uncanny way if you don't have the runtime, but that's almost all you hear from any of the main characters. It's like they're rushing to explain things so they can get to the next setpiece. No sense of an organic world.

My biggest problem was that they jammed to many things into the show, stuff that should have been cut. They should not added the musicians in the cave in episode three. The inventor or his son could have easily explained the cave of two lovers to Sokka and Katara instead.

The show came across less as a adaptation and more as a rearranged recreation. It did little to stand out on it's own.

Yeah but eight fourty to an hour long episodes which is equivalent to 16 to 17 thirty minute episodes.
