We would still have coins but they would represent dollars. The smallest denomination of US currency would be 1 dollar. Everything would be full dollars. Nothing like 1.75 would happen anymore. It would just be 2 dollars probably in that case

The economy would adjust and any income you get would be at least a dollar. Even the poorest American would have 1 dollar. And prices would adjust. Within 10 years of the change, it would all be normalized

We should remove cash all together.

All currency should be a digital currency that is controlled and tracked by the us government.

We might as well just start using caps at this point.

No. Round everything to the nearest quarter and start phasing out pennies, nickles, and dimes. Inflation hasn't been bad enough that getting rid of all coinage is acceptable.

We got rid of 1c and 2c coins in 1990ish, and 5c coins in 2006. It's worked out fine. I suspect 10c won't be far behind now, if they can decide on logistics around how to handle that that would leave us with two denominations that don't neatly divide into one another (20c and 50c). Could always just replace the 20 with a 25 I guess. I don't think we could justify dropping the 20 just yet.

Basically just remove the fractional nature from America's currency scale? You can just multiply everything by 100, & essentially wind up with the same scale point as Japan.

Canada did this in 2012. Now, if you pay cash, anything up to 0.02 is rounded down, but 0.03 and up is rounded up. To the nearest nickel.

Some businesses run a scam where everything is always rounded up. They gained 3-4 cents, every-other transaction, on this. Back in the day companies could make 1-2 thousand bucks a year on this, just based on volume (assuming 300ish transactions a day). Nowadays, far fewer people use cash, so i imagine its a hundred dollar scam at best. but i did run into one in the wild just last week and thought "hmmm, haven't seen that in a while".

Which is why it wont go anywhere because they sell at those prices for a reason, and its been shown to work. Mostly because too many people are stupid and lack basic math and reading comprehension, as can be seen on any game or quiz show.

You ever notice the phrase used when asking someone for their opinion is, "penny for your thoughts?"

But when you provide your opinion you're giving your two cents.

Because one's own opinion is worth more than anyone else's.
