I was just reflecting the other day that every romantic relationship I have ever had in my life, including with my wife, I have been good friends with the woman first.

from what i've seen it's a fling or doesn't last long, "it wasn't real" kinda thing

I hated a guy in middle school who would go on to be my best friend in high school. And there was a girl I absolutely despised in grade school (the feeling was mutual) who I ended up asking out to a HS dance; she turned me down, but with a slight hint of 'I might have considered it if I didn't already had a date.'

My wife hated me when she first met me. She was having a conversation with a mutual friend about seeing the movie 300 by herself. I took this opportunity to call her a pervert for doing so. We had never spoken before that. This apparently upset her, but I had already walked away by the time it registered with her.

Several years ago I worked with a girl who I loathed, and she hated me too. We bickered, smarted each other off, etc. Our supervisors got sick of it and brought us both into the main office.
