Possible spoilers in these links:

https://mytimeatportia.fandom.com/wiki/Petra
https://mytimeatportia.fandom.com/wiki/Mei
https://mytimeatportia.fandom.com/wiki/Ginger
https://mytimeatportia.fandom.com/wiki/Sam

I've mostly concentrated on upgrading my estate (House LV2, Land LV4?), so I haven't had time for romance. But, there'll come a day when I have my land totally expanded and a nice factory, so the clock is ticking. I mostly make $$$ by mining stone, turning them into Stone Rollers, then selling it all on high market days. (I have a drill, so I find several thousand stone per day.)

Overview:

Emily is the one with the highest bond stat right now. Bonus points for her handling domestic duties.
Petra is the nerd who helps me on all the building quests.
Mei's the reporter with the weird witch hat, but she's so chipper, it's hard to hate 'er.
Ginger has some kind of disease, so she only comes out at dark. Bonus points for being a redhead.
Sam's the militia girl who sometimes teams up on story quests. Bonus points for being a tomboy.

It's a shame that there's no one Higgins has his eye on -- I'd love to swoop in and make him cry. I'll just have to settle for having the #1 workshop when winter's over. In yo face!!

Yeah, I heard that spoiler before.

The flower girl (Alice?) is alright, but kinda plain, though. Maybe she has a good story arc or something.

Sam is the most useful, so her. NGL, I hated all of the romance options in the game. They were all so flat and one note.

I wanted a wife who'll take care of my cows, chickens, horses (?), orchard-picking, etc. I plan to have an enormous estate completely lined with apple trees, not like the little isthmus I have in that screenshot above. Since I've never played this game before, I dunno if that's what the domestic duties entails or anything. I just want to go into the mines, build relics, and leave the rest up to someone, lol.

I hear you can hire Ack to do some of this stuff, so maybe he's the one I should be cozying up to, lol.

Ye, Ack is the one that does that stuff in reality. Having a spouse just gives you an RNG chance of doing it. Minus the pets thing. No matter who you have you have to do the petting (Ack can feed, but it is a lot better to do it manually as he will use up all of your high end materials as food).

Can't I just put several thousand plant fiber in his helper box to feed my livestock? I thought that was how helper stuff worked.

Sadly no. It has a cap that is annoyingly low (100, IIRC). While farm animals only eat 2 per day if you plan on having a lot of animals of each type you have to keep at it almost every day.

Okay, now that I have a factory, I notice some stuff I put into the material box can't be used for normal farm activities (i.e. plant fiber can't feed cows). Would that "safe storage" be a good idea to hide high-end food from Ack if I hire him?

Yes. You can also use Safety Boxes to not have Ack pull from them if you are talking about things not in the factory. This is relevant as you can't use the Workbench with stuff in the factory which means that your crafting isn't instant and Artisan doesn't apply.

Ahh yes, safety boxes. I haven't unlocked the recipe in the museum yet, but I've been making some strides to get some. Now that I dumped most of my materials into the factory drop-off slot, it's probably time to start getting rid of all these wooden boxes or changing them into safety boxes (soon). Gonna need to do a few deep dives to get up to thirty relics, I guess. I do like workbench reduction bonus, although I think you need to make batches of five or something to avoid wasting resources (?).

It's a bit of a math thing. It reduces your costs by 20% and due to rounding up you can only guarantee getting a discount if you make things in batches of five. Anything that uses 5+ of something will get a discount but 1-4 doesn't actually give you anything. It's sort of an unfortunate thing about the skill system in that basically every passive is actually kind of bad or utterly overpowered.

I guess it's not too bad to make extra since it comes in handy for daily commissions -- it's already paid off in spades, honestly. Some materials (waterproof cloth, for instance) are just a pain in the ass to find or make, though, even with the Civil Corps running my fur-demanding errands. But yeah, it could've been implemented a lot better.

Oh, it's definitely not worthless. It's just kind of bad in my eyes as you basically get nothing for 3 levels and it only starts to pan out on the 4th, and is mostly only valuable when making bulk things. By comparison you have something like Intimate Interaction which gives a 2x/3x/etc. boost to your daily relationship points gain through giving boosted interactions or Guard, which can make you basically immortal if you hit level 4 and are using level appropriate clothing. That said, Waterproof Cloth isn't impacted as you make it through the Skier and thus it gets no bonus. You can get a discount on the things you make with it, but as both are used in quests there isn't really a need for more than one.

That said, screw Waterproof Cloth. The game calls for way too much of it out of nowhere.

My fave commissions are the ones where people are asking for entire balloons out of nowhere. What? You gonna keep that in your one-room shack? I'd rather throw the waterproof cloth in the gutter than bother with those annoying assignments. Missions that waste w-cloth are just n00b traps.

Ye, the commissions are really goofy by the end. Another goofy one is the Industrial Furnace being requested by random people. Like, I want to say that the church is one of the source of the request. WTF does a church need with an industrial furnace?

That said, the Balloon requires Fiber Cloth, not Waterproof Cloth. A lot easier to deal with, if only because you use Fiber Cloth to make Waterproof.

Alice was my first choice and favourite but I don't think she offers much and it always struck me as odd that she just leaves her kid brother to live on his own.

Gust was interesting. Emily is a great choice. If I ever play again I would probably pursue Sam.

Oh yeah, balloons needed fiber cloth. It's still whack that w-cloth needs fiber cloth 10:1, though. I don't think any other single-unit conversion is that extreme.

Yeah, I remember that quest where you deliver goods to Alice and her bro since they're down on their luck or something. I guess I do have a little pity for them, but her bro living in town on his own would be messed up. I know Sam gives a reduction with Civil Corps stuff, but most of what they currently find for me isn't that useful. I've mostly been using 'em for fur as part of the w-cloth mill. Maybe this new marsh place I built a ramp to will give more options (crocodiles, etc.)

Speaking of which, I built my ramp (the easy one) and it looks fantabulous, but then I went up Higgins' ramp and it looks like hot garbage: holes in the material, planks askew, etc. I was hoping my four-month smackdown to win #1 Builder would humble him, but I guess not.
