Today I went out with some coworkers who I consider my friends. We talk at least weekly, occasionally go out to lunch together, etc. We dont talk or hang out outside of work, but thats because most of us are married or have kids, and we live in a small boring town.

anyway, this one coworker says she saw me at a recent local event but hid from me so we wouldnt have an awkward moment of small talk. And I said small talk is a little awkward sometimes with people you dont know too well but were friends, and I wouldnt have minded if she said hi and we talked for a minute before splitting.

Then she says to me, yeah were friends. work friends.

Damn dude. Really questioning whether I have any friends anymore.

yeah this. even if it's someone I'm not "work friends" with, I'll still say hi.

the truly awkward thing was her telling you that she hid from you.

If she alllws it you should munch on that ass and give her multiple orgasms one night. Unfriended at that point

Maybe she has social anxiety or something? Most people don't hide to avoid small talk, let alone tell that person that they were hiding.

I think any coworker who I had an even somewhat positive opinion of I would go out of my way to say hi to them if I saw them at a concert or something.

I admit, it would hurt a little bit to be told that, but at least you're not like me where you hung out with people and considered them friends, only to find out from overhearing that they did it because they felt sorry for you.

She made it 100% more awkward by even bringing it up

I've encountered a few of my co-workers while grocery shopping on separate occasions before and even then it was just pretty much a "Hey, what's up? See you Monday!" kind of situation.

I feel a lot more put off by this than I think I should. The rest of lunch was totally pleasant, at least.

I guess I just have a lower bar for friends. If we just see each other once a month at staff meetings, coworkers. If we pleasantly chat about outside of work stuff and go to lunch together and regularly commiserate about boring work shit, friends.

I will add though, that this specific woman and I are medium friends in this group. There are some who I only talk to when were all together, and some who I do hang out with after work (we go out on weekends, drink or smoke a bit, whatever). Us two are somewhere in the middle.
