It just kinda fits into a broader trend of stuff since the pandemic with meal/grocery delivery and stuff where the attitude is "why would I go out when it's more convenient for me to just stay at home and remote in or have my things delivered to me?"

Like just staying at home all the time is not very healthy, even if it's more convenient. People need the socialization in their lives.

Not that like "HEY YOU NEED GO GROCERY SHOPPING YOU MIGHT MAKE SOME FRIENDS" but like, being present in the outside world and having genuine face-to-face interactions even if they're mundane is good for you.

Big thing in news lately is the "loneliness epidemic". I feel like this shit is a pretty big contributing factor. Impossible to make connections with your community and the people around you when everyone is able to just close themselves off.

Like I did some remote work/work from home over the lockdowns, and got my groceries and stuff delivered and I wanted to yank my hair out after the first couple of weeks. I can't fathom doing that for the rest of my career.

Plus depending on the field you work in, especially if it's collaborative in nature, I feel like not being in a shared physical space with coworkers would be a hindrance.

That isn't a problem for people who still have a normal, healthy social life outside of work though. And your last point is a good point, but there are definitely plenty of fields where it's not necessary.

To each their own, I say. WFH is far superior in my opinion. I have so much more free time now that I don't have to get ready or commute.

Yea I did it for years and I ended up becoming a blob. If it works for you great but yea I became a blob. Now I go in every day even tho my company only requires one day.

I'd probably lose weight to be honest. I don't get to work from home at all despite my job in IT being 99% on my computer. This company has a lot of food options. Alternate between potluck from employees and chicken minis from executives every Friday, food for holidays, and sometimes random (well not really random but non holiday) pizza parties. Gained a lot of weight since working here but that's also since it's a lot less active than my less job too.

I don't have the kind of job where I could do WFH. Well, I do, but my job is so behind the times that they haven't embraced the technology that would allow me to.

But I honestly don't think I would like it. I like going out, even if it's just to drive to work. And there's too many distractions at home.

I dont have any real interest in interacting with my coworkers. They mostly seem like fine people, but Im not a small talk guy. As sad as it may sound, I get plenty of socialization online, and Im able to cater it to my interests.

I personally wouldn't like it. Home is for relaxing, work is for working. Though I definitely understand it for people who have a job that can easily be done remotely, and would have a long or annoying commute just to do the same thing in some building.

I get what you mean about getting out of the house. There are days I go out just because being home too much feels confining. I can't be in the same room or building for that long.

My office is 700 miles away so I don't have much choice lmao, definitely days I wish I was closer to an office to go in and dick around with co-workers for a bit but they pay me well enough so I don't complain.

True, but maybe it's just because I'm a naturally extroverted kinda guy, but even though I have a pretty active social life, staying at home like that still strikes me as a bit too isolating.

I mean it helps that I genuinely get along really well with my boss and coworkers.

Eh that's fair. I live in a city where I can be just about anywhere in a 15-20 minute drive. I imagine if I lived in a bigger city with a longer/more stressful commute maybe I'd have a different view on things.

Yep. My attention span is awful already. Being able to open steam while trying to work is a disaster waiting to happen.

Back when my social life revolved around work, I would have hated WFH.

Now it doesn't, I see WFH as a huge perk.

Speaking of working expanding your circle, I have made some really good friends from work and have dated a coworker. Never would have met those people if it wasnt for work.

Thats not really the sole/main reason I didnt like WFH though. It just felt weird at times and for some reason felt like it dragged so badly time-wise compared to being in an office. WFH work days felt like an eternity and I would be going crazy.

Also Im always kind of suspicious of those who are like pshh, I get just as much work done if not more at home! Im always kind of like, sure ya do.

That's understandable. Where I work, there are some people who go into the office almost every day even though they don't have to. That's what works better for them.

I am just as productive working from home than working from a cubicle. Was able to save and invest tens of thousands of dollars from not not having to spend money on commuting and parking.

Tbh hard disagree, there's too many people going out who only do it because they are bored being at home. Driving slow because they have nowhere to be, making lines longer because they're shopping when they don't need anything, forced chats with coworkers who are only there to socialize, etc. Some of us are forced to get out of the house and interact with people everyday, I would love it the ones who didn't have to do that just stayed home.

Definitely prefer a hybrid job

dont want to be in office all the time, and I like saving time not commuting, but also going into the office a few days a week helps keep me focused and its nice having face to face time with co-workers

I'm very introverted, and even I started to hate wfh after a month. Hybrid would be great so that I could maybe put some more time into side projects instead of dicking around on gfaqs on my on-the-clock downtime. But I'd pretty much have to threaten to quit to even have a chance of talking my bosses into wfh a few days a week, and I'm not ready to make that jump yet.

Nah I prefer saving tons of money on gas and getting to sleep more and not putting unnecessary miles on my car and causing less pollution. If I could work from home full time I absolutely would.

If I need SoCiALiZaTiOn, Ill go visit friends or family and run some errands.

I prefer going into the office and in person meetings over remote/virtual.

Working from home is objectively superior for metrics of productivity & employee happiness, plus you save more money & less congestion on the roads since most people could easily wfh in a lot of their office jobs. If you don't enjoy it that's fine, some people want the in person work. But we have stats that show wfh is better overall for the end employee

The stats show that, on average, wfh is better for the employee. That doesnt mean its better for everyone

I'm good on sitting in traffic 45 minutes each way just so someone can justify the expensive office real estate they paid for.

If other people like that that's fine, but don't drag my ass down too

Id prefer to WFH every day but the company forces us to waste time and energy commuting 3x a week. Plus the office is always full of good little troopers who show up despite being violently ill so everybody can see what good little troopers they are.

Not everyone likes to work from home, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's like people that don't like to work in offices and would rather work outside.

I socialize outside of work much more than I do at work. I don't need my job to be my space for social interaction.

Plus, working in the office means I have to spend part of my day commuting. I waste about 2 hours every day sitting in traffic. Working from home would give me that time back.

Imagine having to get your socialization needs fulfilled by work.

Eh, I can see some of it. There's a certain charm to going out with coworkers and getting to know them. Me personally? I prefer meeting people outside of work because the less I see of coworkers, the better unless I knew them beforehand or really vibe with them at work.

nah keep me out of fulfilling your socialization needs. go get some friends. i'm not going to the office solely because people at work need people to talk to. i go see my friends and family, and i'm way more eager to do so because i wfh. i'd rather spend my social energy on them, than have it used up by people at the office that i don't even like and then i don't feel like being bothered after work. which was how it was for me pre wfh.

if you want to go to the office, go. but leave me out of it lol.

I think the main problem is just how much time work takes up. With how much productivity has increased, we shouldn't be locked into an office for 40+ hours a week. When I was in the office, I'd talk with coworkers for hours just to pass the time. While that's nice, there are many other things I'd rather be doing that I couldn't because I was tied to the office.

I think the best is some sort of hybrid version of work. Id prefer 3 days work from home and two days in office.

The real key is get an outside job where you can do your wfh job at. I was doing an overnight hotel clerk job for 15/hr with 5 hours of down time where I did my other work on my laptop.

I don't disagree with that, but I can kind of see why people enjoy it. I personally find people distracting.

Its definitely not for everyone, but for me personally its been 100% pros, and I will try my damndest never to return in-office.

Most of my job now revolves around meetings, which tend to get clustered Tu-Th. Which usually leaves M and Fr with free time. Im not off technically today, but Im out and about doing errands and such.

Things tend to get so busy to where Ive historically been unable to ever fit in all my PTO for the year, but WFH allows me the flexibility to handle things on my own schedule and make up for that differential. When I think back on my job and some of the complete and utter nonsense and inefficiencies that came with being in the office *shudders*. There is zero of that now.

I cant do like more than half of what my job entails without physically being at work, so i kind of agree.

Im sure its great for certain occupations and people who have long commutes, but i do enjoy what i do, even it requires me to be at work
