Gamers are the biggest spineless jellyfish marks in any industry and it's not even close.

I remember when Total Biscuit made a video making fun of that horse. He said you shouldn't invite people to your raid if they had that horse.

I question if the sparkly pony made more money in raw numbers than StarCraft 2. That said, it probably was much more profitable. SC2 required a whole team and a lot of time to make. The sparkly pony was a reskin of the standard horse model and would have been relatively quick to make, especially compared to a whole game.

You don't need exact figures to put together the notion that a stupid $15 microtransaction for a hundred million dollar MMO definitely averaged out more money than the 6 million copies SC2 sold (TO DATE) :/

$15 isn't a microtransaction lmao you can buy whole games for that.

Microtransactions are going nowhere in the near future. EA went overboard, faced backlash, reeled them in a tiny bit and people cheered. It may have hurt the initial bottom line for Battlefront 2, but 9 million copies sold still put them at half a billion BEFORE microtransactions.

Most mobile games are ass, but enough people keep tossing nickels and dimes at them to keep them going.

Diablo Immortal is a meh game, but if you look at the flat numbers posted, it was a success. Microtransactions work.

Best part (for companies) is that you don't even need to reach a lot of people because there's almost always going to be a handful of people dropping a fuck ton of money just because.

I just got done playing some Baldur's Gate 3. What are these microtransactions you speak of?

I don't think I play any EA or Blizzard games to be honest. I don't even have the Origin store or whatever it's called. I haven't played a Blizzard game since SC2. There are too many good games on Steam and GoG that don't have unfriendly consumer practices.

EDIT: Oh, and I'll never forgive EA for killing off one of my favorite studios, Maxis. Oh, and Westwood too. I consider EA to be parasitic leaches that try to milk existing franchises of every drop of blood possible before discarding the husk and looking for another studio to buy.

And now they want us to pay for "early access" for every game because I bought into it for Diablo IV.

Blizzard now makes a ton of money off their real money mounts. That horse was just the first of many later mounts that cost 15 20 25, I think some even ask for 30 dollars. Also every year they year they now do offers where if you buy a full year sub, you get 1 or more premium mounts with that sub.
