Besides prisons.

Is it illegal to own slaves that are other species, or maybe even inorganic? Immaterial?

The 13th amendment doesnt specify humans, but do you think it implicitly does?

I'm not sure that those two words should be associated with each other.

Thats not true.

Thirteenth Amendment
Section 1
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Nothing in there about slavery being legal based on income, religion, shoe size, gender, sex, age, reading level, etc.

Slavery is legal as punishment for a crime, which is how they get away with paying prisoners less than minimum wage

animals aren't considered people, so they aren't considered under slavery

they're considered, mainly, as tools and crops.

which, yes, so was people slaves, but animals don't really have the capacity to realize what's happening to them and so they don't act out against their captors. it's fucked up when you think about it
