How fucked up is Marvel internally if they thought this movie was a home run?

Endgame was the logical end. But money always takes priority over creative ambition, so we have zombie franchises.

The movie could be solved by having the characters simply talk. They did not, which is why it failed so spetacuarly.

Also, the stakes at the end with Ant Man failed because it was so quickly resolved.

This

The only reason why this movie even had a story was because of characters deliberately acting stupid and refusing to communicate. It's the sort of things that ruins every story regardless of medium.

I'm gonna be real, sometimes the pronoun game can be fun and suspenseful, but this movie overused it like crazy.

Oh no, it's HIM. HE this, HE that. Then as soon as the "big name reveal" it's like a cosmic memo went out and the pronoun game stopped.

You can tell it was re-written in a way to make it the launching point for a new series villain rather than it being its own contained narrative. You felt it as you watched. It is kinda like the Pixar film Brave, you can tell it was rewritten and changed halfway through.

Quantumania was fine, but it felt disjointed because it was.

This is from the same company who didn't have proper screenwriters for their Disney+ shows and just told directors what to make, until the new WGA terms forced them to do so. Not surprised they're out of touch with their movies.

Yup, the first writer wanted it to be more about Merida's struggle to live her own life and not be part of the clan hierarchy. So the first half was all about her fighting against getting married and being obviously the strongest person in the clan but still expected to marry and all that. It would have been a father/daughter story.

Then the second writer came in and shifted focus to the mother/daughter relationship.

From the Wiki:

Announced in April 2008 as The Bear and the Bow,[18] Brave is Pixar's first fairy tale.[19][20][21] Writer and director Brenda Chapman considers it a fairy tale in the tradition of Hans Christian Andersen and the Brothers Grimm.[22] She also drew inspiration from her relationship with her daughter.[23] Chapman conceived the project and was announced as the film's director, making her Pixar's first female director,[24] but in October 2010, she was replaced by Mark Andrews after creative disagreements between her and John Lasseter.[25][26] Chapman found the news of her replacement "devastating", but later stated that her "vision came through in the film" and that she remained "very proud of the movie, and that I ultimately stood up for myself."[23][4] Chapman then stated in an interview in 2018 that while she was still bittersweet about being taken off the film and believed that there was no reason to do so creatively, she felt that it "opened more doors for me to have that happen".[26] Brave is also the first Pixar film with a female protagonist and Pixar's first film to have two credited directors.
Following his hiring as director, Mark Andrews did a major overhaul of the story to give more focus on Merida and her troubled relationship with her mother. Among others, he cleared away many magic elements, which he found affected the environment.[27] However, he wanted to stay truthful to Chapman's story. He said: "The bones of the film were totally fine. That was not the issue. What was hanging off the bones, there were problems. There were things that were not working. The focuses and balances that were out of whack."[28]

I have a really hard time believing this. Ive been pretty defensive of Phase 4 and enjoyed Eternals and Love and Thunder.

But even I thought Quantumania sucked and Secret Invasion should have been set on fire. I cant imagine anyone ever thinking either of those products was fit to be released let alone good

Did they dump a lot of money into the movie? Yes, they really did. Was it a banger? Let's just says there's a huge reason why it didn't do as well at the BO as they expected it to...because it was bad. I mean, you know the movie is going to be a dumpster fire when the whole premise relied on Michelle Pfeiffer being a moron and not mention anything about Kang the Conqueror in the Quantum realm.

Ant-Man 3 was pretty fun, if underwhelming in the grand scheme. It had some cool moments, some good jokes, and a neat final battle. I'd put it in the bottom half of MCU for sure, but it wasn't a disaster like Thor 4

I think it's more when you have a franchise that's 20 movies deep people are over the 'that was okay' kinda movies.

It's pretty obvious people are feeling saturated. That doesn't mean superhero movies are dead but maybe they'll go back to just going to see the big and popular heroes like Batman and Spider-man.

Worst part for me was the screenplay and cassies actress. Part of what made the mcu excel at first was how they tried to sell you these fantastic worlds with a hint of realism. Cassies line in the movie saying "you know, just quantum" showed me how lazy the had become in this area.

Also Michael Douglas seemed like he was revived out of cryogenic chamber just to act here and that was a shame.

Movie looked nice at least. They also sold you this movie as the one thats moving along the continuity and it failed at that as well.
