which would you choose? and for this topic only ones that have become extinct within the last 400 years or so. So they very modern humans would have to had seen them. Iirc some famous ones are the thylacine, the dodo bird, the passenger pigeon. Especially for the passenger pigeon , it was like the most common bird in north america like 200 yrs ago. Over 3 billion of them

oh so you are against any effort to do this kind of stuff, even if it were possible? iirc they haven't even successfully done one yet

I'm not against it on principle.

But it would be a huge amount of resources spent on producing a novelty. Meanwhile, the list of creatures going extinct increases year on year.

It may even weaken efforts to save species if people start thinking, 'oh, we'll just bring them back later'.

but do you personally believe that scientists will be able to do it?

I believe they will be able to approximate it. Be able to reproduce all of the physical characteristics, as far as we know them.

But I would question whether they 'brought back' the creature, or just produced an imitation. Then again, does that matter?

If we brought the dodo back, we would likely end up farming them.
