Supposedly, it's led to a decrease in sales because collectors want to see the toy they're buying and parents instantly assume that a closed box means it's a game rather than a toy.

I was disappointed that the Joy Toy Black Legion figures didn't have windows in their boxes. But then I remembered that I was just going to open them and set them up so it didn't matter.

Correct. Like its just a box if i cant see the damn figure. I dont pay any attention to a closed box with no window.

Biggest issue is people swapping the figure out with anything else and returning it, leaving the next person to get screwed

Don't those fold open to show the figure inside? The only time I actually looked at one was when I came across one for the NES game Godzilla: Monster of Monsters. It had a flap that opened up and showed the world map on the side opposite the Godzilla figure.

It's the only time I've been tempted as an adult to buy a toy.

It's not entirely true that it's the only toy I've been tempted to buy. I've occasionally thought about spite-purchasing a toy I never had a chance to get when I was a kid.
