Recent expansion teams in cities like Atlanta, Austin, Cincinnati and Nashville have seen really strong fan support, and the league recently announced an expansion team for San Diego, bringing the league to 30 teams. Pretty much all of their clubs now are either playing in soccer specific stadiums, or draw enough fans to make playing in an NFL stadium not ludicrous. They finally got a stadium approved in NYC, which had been a source of frustration for ten years. And the quality of play has improved, as measured by increased success against Mexican opposition in the CCL. At the same time, the league's television ratings have never been good, and haven't particularly improved in recent years, which is what lead the league to make Apple its major broadcast partner, in lieu of local sports cable channels and even national TV outlets like ESPN. This is a decision that has been polarizing, but it remains to be seen whether it will pay off. Also, while the league's recent additions (owned by people and groups who could pay 9-figure expansion deals) have had a lot of success, some of its original clubs (owned by people who bought in for ~5-10 million) have waned in ways that are concerning. The Red Bulls, the Galaxy, Colorado, all of them have struggled on the field and in ticket sales in recent years.
