I know that a lot of people had issues with the finale (I liked it, though), but the show was still really good, and maintained a big audience.

it could have gone on for a few more seasons, tbh.

It was still mega popular even though the finale was meh and the Puerto Rican Day episode before that was the absolute worst one in the show's run.

Only episode I didnt like was the finale. After all the consistent great episodes they didnt owe me anything by then anyway.

yeah the finale wasn't really that great. Iirc they brought larry david back to write it. i really liked the puerto rican day, but the finale really was underwhelming. Iirc it was the highest rated seinfeld show ever though

I thought the finale became bad, but overall I didn't think it really soured the series and overall Season 9 was hilarious. I in the past forgot it didn't make 10 seasons so hilariously when I was moving them all to one tape off tv (with two vcrs) I wrote on my "custom VHS tape" of Seinfeld the wrong season. (Season 10).

when do you guys think simpsons jumped the shark? iirc seinfeld in the beginning wasn't that good but like the last 6 seasons it was really good. The opposite kinda of how the simpsons , went

I thought it got dumb when Homer stopped going to work and just kept doing all these weird side jobs but even at that, probably season 11 or 12 was when I stopped caring about it. Season 9 is the last dvd I bought anyway.

Early Seinfeld is actually really funny. Don't tell me the "Stock Tip" from Season1 isn't a riot. Also George having money and spending big for once :D

I like season 9 and thought the finale was fine. Maybe I wasn't as bothered by the finale because I skipped the clip show episodes. The 4 going to jail is funny and appropriate to me.

Same. It gets a lot of undeserved hate, both because of the flag and just general hatred of the episode. Jerry, Geroge, and Kramer as their "alter egos" together is one of the best moments of the show.

Yeah they did have 2, clip shows before the finale, but the finale wasn't very good

I wasn't a huge fan of the finale but I also haven't watched it in a while. Season 9 itself is great though with many classic episodes (The Voice, The Serenity Now, The Merv Griffin Show, The Strike, The Frogger).

Ill never understand the hate this episode gets, its legit one of the best episodes.

I think they were ready to call it quits. Season 8 was going to be the final season at one point. They had the logo be a checkered flag to signify it. Both 8 and 9 were great and had some of the best episodes of the show. They didn't have Larry David anymore and they were a bit more over the top and sitcom-y compared to earlier seasons, but they were still great and the show ended on a high note.

It's possible they could have done one more great season, but anything good will start to lose quality the longer it goes on and I'm glad they didn't do any more looking back.

They made some missteps during the final season, but, they were still on top at the time.

The finale was a big thing at the time.

Frank Sinatra died the night of Seinfeld's finale and his ambulance made it to the hospital in record time because traffic was so light due to everyone watching the show.

The show was really getting silly by that point but it didn't go on long enough for people to get tired of it. The finale was bad, maybe would've been better if they ditched the whole Paris trip misdirection to start it.

I think overall the show ended at the right time.

i think Seinfeld was pretty consistently good. Finale wasnt awful, just kind of.. different?

As for Simpsons, since someone mentioned it, you can start seeing some cracks in one or two S7 episodes, but it still remains good. I think the real stinkers show up in 10, and then the whole thing falls apart at 12.

I think Seinfeld himself said they had one more season in them. I would've liked it. I personally enjoyed Seinfeld's version of Seinfeld which became very zany like the chicken restaurant across the street episode as opposed to the more grounded Larry David episodes

Of course. They clearly tried too hard for the finale, but for a show of that popularity to call it quits after only 7 seasons was basically unheard of. Anyone else woulda milked that thing for another 3 seasons, easy.

I mean, it was a cultural phenomenon. I distinctly remember going to my friend's house as a little kid and his mom would watch the new Seinfeld every week. Her TV was in the line of sight of their computer, so we would basically hang out with his mom every week to watch it, while pretending that we were actually playing games or whatever.

That was the genius of the show, it appealed to literally everyone.

Isn't the finale where they get thrown in jail? Cause I think it's kind of funny that it ended on that.
