I remember seeing it for $2 and buying it as a joke years after it came out. I did want to genuinely give it a chance, but I heard about it's bad performance on consoles for a while. Figured it couldn't be that bad.

Game crashed on me two times during the training section. And when I finally beat the tutorial level, not only did it crash on the loading screen, my save file also got corrupted. So I was done with it.

Years later (a year or so ago from now), I tried to play it again, and this time, I finally got to see what the next area looked like! Only for it to crash when I interacted with an item in a safe house. Booted it up again, and I managed to get into an actual mission with stealth and shooting and stuff. A few minutes into the, the game crashed and the file gets corrupted.

That shit was objectively bad, like damn. That 63/100 score on Metacritic is still way too damn high lol

While Alpha Protocol did have plenty of technical difficulties like glitches and framedrops, I don't recall there being a good amount of crashes, save file corruptions,... and the like. Playing Skyrim or Fallout on PS3 was a far worse experience.

And the 63 score it received, was entirely due to the strength of the writing and dialogue trees. It truly is one of the few games in existence that actually deserves a remake.

It must not have been that bad on Xbox, I played it and beat it, remember it having some issues, but nothing like what you are saying.

Cult classic for me, I really liked the game a lot.

I returned one of Frogware's earlier Sherlock Holmes games on Steam because of just how many times it crashed. It was something like one crash every 5 or so minutes on average.

Disappointing as the game before was Neverwinter Nights 2 and that was great!

New Vegas on the same console.

Performance got to the point where it would slow down to like 2 FPS after an hour of playing. I had to give up partway into Lonesome Road with a chunk of vanilla still to go as well.

It's a goddamn great game, shame it's so busted on PS.

Sonic '06? I always play through sonic games but '06 was one I just dropped.

Looking it up I found this:

"Due to the expiry of music rights in Alpha Protocol, the title has been removed from Steam and is no longer on sale," a Sega spokesperson said in a new statement.

Nothing worse than some stupid music rights keeping games off the market.

You could get a key from g2a for $105 apparently. I ended up having to do that for the Unreal Tournament games after Epic took them off Steam. Ended up paying $60 for UT 2004, and it ended up being a key for the Unreal Retail bundle so I got all Unreal games, which was well worth $60 to me.

I only remember it crashing on me once or twice and it was close to the end of the game.

As far as the gameplay, my only controller at the time had stick drift. So using guns wasn't really a good option for me regardless of how the skills worked. I just punched the fuck out of everyone in my ignorant bliss.

I wonder if the issue I had with the game had anything to do with the version of the game. Like, maybe the final patch on PS3 fucked it all up.

Doubtful. Seems most multi platform games ran worse on PS3 than everything else.

I can say the Steam version is fine, but you apparently cant buy it anymore.

Can confirm the 14fps drops were BAD and it was already an ugly as hell downgrade.

I unironically enjoyed that game. It wasn't perfect, but it had some cool ideas. I played it on Xbox 360 and never had any problems with it. I didn't experience a single crash across multiple playthroughs. Maybe it was an issue with the PS3 version?

I felt so bad for my friend. I was used to the PC version and I just winced so hard.
