For me it was mostly because the ways the voiced player character said their lines never carried the same tone as how they played in my mind.

When I play an evil character who hates people, I imagine their voice dripping with spite, not the comparatively gentle sarcasm it came out as.

The voiced protagonist was arguably the worst decision made with Fallout 4 for numerous reasons

I always play as a woman, and I thought the VA did a pretty good job; general consensus seems to lean towards this being the case as well.

To be honest, the female MC reacting to finally finding 'Shaun' in the Institute is one of the few moments in any of these games (including NV) that actually stirred a bit of emotion in me.

Also, one of my favorite bits in the game (so much so that I do it the same way every playthrough regardless of build or what my companion thinks of it) is during the Silver Shroud quest; at every opportunity I take the goofy superhero-voice dialogue options, right up until the very last dialogue option with Sinjin, where you can punk his minions into retreating by breaking character and telling them that you're going to slaughter every last one of them; the VA sells that line pretty well imo.

In upcoming Bethesda titles, all NPCs should be voiced by Todd Howard.

When I first played the game I got about an hour in as the male player before I gave up and quit because of how bad his voice acting was. While looking up who he was I learned that the female player was voiced by the same woman who did Jack in Mass Effect so I started a new game as a female and it was a night and day difference. She was infinitely better.

It's almost always the case that when you have both a male and female VA for a main character, the female VA is the better of the two.

Kinda weird how a good chunk of the time female characters tend to have the better voice for these games. Its like trying to play Mass Effect with male Shepard even though Female Sheppard is better

I keep dreaming about this game even though I haven't played it in years.

Usually I am in the Creation Club or Mod Menu parts looking for content (sometimes NSFW content).

There was one time I got a Perk called "Snail" (specfically, Luck-7) that reduced movement speed but increased my natural defense stat.

I also remember finding mod stuff in the base-game backpack from Skyrim like some Skyrim mods do.

Friends,

I play on the xbox one, with lots of mods. so i put mods in to do different stuff.

I use a custom companion, they SAY stuff. Her name is Heather. she reacts to the places you visit. She is like 20 times better then the generic companions they give you.

I have played so many times, Just last week, in fact. that I do not even listen to what they have to say. they just put a quest marker, where you have to go..and BINGO, you go there.

Also doesn't help when you don't see what you're going to say. Mods may fix it, but when it's shitty dialogue anyway, does it even really matter?

The dialogue options weren't really that much of a letdown for me because they weren't really that much of a step down from Fallout 3 (and if you possess even an ounce of wisdom, you go into Fallout 4 expecting to compare it to 3, not NV). Apart from its generally piss-poor writing ("I'm looking for my father, middle-aged guy, you seen him?"), 3 had its fair share of 'yes, yes but sarcastic, no but really yes' dialogue 'choices,' and your options for moral choices were usually so cartoonishly evil (and not in a good way) that they weren't much to write home about.

4's dialogue framework is a clear-cut step down, though. What pisses me off the most is when you get bugged quests because a quest-giver (usually Preston) simply has more than 4 topics he needs to cover but can't fit them all into the dialogue wheel.
