Nice. My first requirement for my house was that fiber internet was available. Having 1 Gbps down/up just removes any worry about bandwidth usage for me.

We had 1GB Fiber at my first apartment out of college, then moved not even a mile up the street to a nice townhouse and the most they could offer was 25mbps LOL

Hoping it becomes available in the future. I have 1200mbps cable now which isn't terrible but I miss having that sweet sweet upload speed of fiber.

Nice. I'm waiting on my neighborhood to run fiber through. I just bought the house knowing fiber was on the way and figured it'd be here by now, but not yet. They've already trenched though and have been working at the hub so it can't be far.

Hotspot living works okay, but having to monitor data limits feels like I'm living in 2007 and don't have unlimited texting and have to keep monitoring my ingestion.

Easy workaround is screen sharing for movies and stuff. I have unlimited actual phone data which is working fine, but the hotspot data for my work computer is what's limited. So basically anything non-work (youtube, shitposting, etc.) comes from my phone.

If you have fiber internet and the speeds aren't synchronous, I would assume there is coax in the path somewhere. Like maybe it's fiber to the street, but coax to the premises or something like that.

Nope. It's fiber from the "hub" (in the back yard) to the house, and fiber to the modem

Either their network is oversaturated or they've done additional work to make the upload speed slower than the download.

I can't select Japan or Australia from the app (at least that I can see), but here is the furthest test it gave me, which was in Ontario. (I'm located in Pittsburgh)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/0/8/2/AADAKwAAEiyq.png

Doing it to Japan from their website (which will have performance hits due to it running in a browser instead of a dedicated app, at least that's what I am lead to believe)

Honestly, I would replace that with your own. Youll be better speeds and eliminate the rental fee. I bought two of these: one for all of my wired connections that lead down into the basement, and one as a wireless access point in my living room.

Yeah, I got a mesh wifi network a few years ago. It's the best home wifi solution available at the moment.

Unless your house is wired for ethernet and you can go the infrastructure route.

I just love the interface through the Nighthawk App. Plus they go on sale pretty often. I got them for $70 each back in March.

I dont have a mesh set up, but this one isnt bad either. When we built this house, we had Ethernet ports set up alongside all of the cable jacks that lead in to the basement. They all connect to the one router in the basement, meaning all of my TVs and consoles are wired, reducing bandwidth clutter. The second router is an access point off of the first one, and thats what all the wireless devices connect to.

The combo router/modems tend to be worse than the standalone devices.

My town has god awful internet. The two providers that actually serviced where I live cut my section of town out of their availability.

Thankfully, a new company is installing high speed fiber broadband throughout town. I should be getting that in the next few weeks, and I'm super excited for it.

Congrats OP! I've also recently upgraded to fiber too (Frontier). I basically have the exact same speeds as you.

It's nice to upload a massive 4K video to YouTube under just 1 hour. Before I had Spectrum and my upload was.. get ready........ only 10mbps... 11 in a lucky day.. lmao. And yes, it would take about 1-2 days to upload a 4K video to Youtube. I was even lucky enough to stream yet sometimes it crashes... ugh.

Currently paying $80 monthly and imo it's worth it.

Sometimes Spectrum has employees posted up at the grocery store where I live trying to sell me service. They often don't have any concept of how important upload speed is. They also commonly don't know what upload speeds they offer because Spectrum doesn't openly advertise it.
