I've played Mafia 3, but none of the others. Hopefully it has some fun vibes like The Godfather game did on PS2. Sadly, unlike that game, it looks like I can't make a fugly joke CaC that looks half Gheorghe Murean, half Mario Brother. Let's do dis!

What? I thought Mafia 3 was pretty good. It's all the "take over territory" fluff in between the fun story that kinda sucked.

Huh, this motel shakedown mission is kinda hard. Maybe I should do a few more stealth KOs.

Yeah, it's not too bad so far. I guess it's all mission-based, huh? I enjoyed the M3 overworld stuff and just driving around to some good tunes, but guess that fun would be a bit muted outside of Nawlins.

Yeah, the world is basically just there to get you from point A to point B. I think Free Ride gets you access to the open world but there isn't that much to do.

I haven't played Mafia 3 but I might give it a shot after this.

Yep, gameplay was good. Story was fun, getting to murder the klan on a regular basis was great. Just the endless loop of taking stuff over was a chore.

I really liked Mafia 3. I even had fun taking over territory and sneaking around and killing bad guys as a badass Vietnam vet. The atmosphere of the game is pretty great too. The writing is the series strong suit as usual and at times I even felt a tiny bit of sympathy for villain. It does get a bit tedious at times and there could have been a few different improvements they could have done, but overall I thought it was good and does not deserve the flack it gets. I know it was a buggy mess at first though so that probably ruined a lot of people's first impressions.

The Definitive Edition is pretty good too. For me it was kind of quaint going back old school linear game like that after years of modern open world games. While I haven't played the original version in years, the DE seems pretty faithful to it and made things better. I still wish they added more stuff to do within the world though. While it's a remake of an old game, they still should add in a few modern amenities and such. I played the original on PS2, which was kind of a pain because of the loading times.

And The Godfather game was so great. Had so much fun with it and beating various rival mobsters and shop keeps up in various ways. 2 was ok, but not near as fun though it added in some fun features like having a crew and taking out the top rival mob guys which helps you in the world.

I have an impromptu shootout at a funeral and this mofo is already throwing molotovs. Who brings molotovs to church? Mr. Preparedness over there! Let's hope letting that working girl leave town doesn't come back to bite me in the ass -- doubt the don would be pleased if he learned of it. (I wonder if that other guy'll rat me out later over some dispute.)

And, yeah, I don't really mind the open-world exploration going away if it's just going to be boring stuff. You just have less of a chance to learn the map while joyriding, which was one of the more enjoyable things to do in games like GTA3, The Godfather, Mafia 3, etc. I know they're timeskipping a little, but the pace feels pretty brisk.

I seem to remember Mafia 3's DLC all being free (?) now, so I almost want to go back and try it out. It any good? The only boring parts in the basic plot structure were divvying up the city -- which I did equally, IIRC -- through small-timer gang incidents. Otherwise, cruising around in the bayou to some golden oldies really made an impression. I could live without hearing All Along the Watchtower on startup, though...that was never my fave.

Okay, I fixed a race, bombed a hotel, shot up apx. 500,000 coppers, got ambushed at a whiskey farm, and found out Frank turned informant. And then, after lunch...

Oh hey, another steamboat mission.

Has there ever been a BAD steamboat mission in a game? I can't think of any.

Pretty sure last night, the intermission part in the cafe said I'd be betrayed by a close friend. Sam? Paulie? Maybe Sarah? All three at once in a 3-on-1 betrayal grudge match? I have killed more men than typhoid, so I wouldn't be surprised if people started hating me, honestly. Could be that...or that I'm the best wheelman, most reliable gunman, AND the don's probable successor, and they just can't stop turning green.

I doubt the don would set me up for this one, though, even if there's eventual bad blood. I am pulling a Frank in the present-day stuff, after all.

Mafia III had an interesting story but i gave up on it cause the gameplay was pretty fucking repetitive.

Mafia I Remastered on the other hand was much more straightforward and enjoyable.

If you play 2, you will like it better, it's a lot more like 3, without the repetition, and better overall story and missions.

Welp, Sam killed Paulie after the bank heist, then I killed Sam in an art gallery, then I ratted on everyone, then Salieri's goons killed (?) me. I hope Mafia 2 is my sons-in-law (?) getting revenge.

A bit of a downer ending, but I guess that's expected in mafia media. Not a bad li'l game overall.

Ehh, I'm about Mafia'd out right now. Most levels devolved into "kill 1000 guys," even in situations that made no sense. Case in point: the last level. Sam ambushes me in the foyer, but when I surprisingly break the ambush, there's already 1000 guys spread out through the museum, waiting to ambush me again! I know I'm a badass par excellence, but give me a break.

Yeah it's understandable and it's an issue in a lot of games, mostly shooting ones. Everyone has a whole army of goons ready to murder you and you just one man army through all of them. Where do the bad guys recruit all these folks? It's an issue with the GTA games too, but at least they're deliberately over the top so while it's still a bit ridiculous it's not so bad, but for a more grounded series like Mafia it's worse. I guess the developers don't want games boring where you only kill a handful of guys, but surely there's a way to have a good mix of realism and fun. Still, try out Mafia 2 some day. It might be the best story wise.

It's not that big of a deal, but it does get tiresome. If there were more levels like the prison -- where you can do large parts of it through stealth, then do a shortcut to leave -- things would've been a bit more enjoyable. Just walking into that derelict building, I was thinking, "Oh great, I'm going to have to go through a maze to reach that tower, then fight through 1000 guys who teleport over, just like usual". Glad to see I was mostly wrong for once.
