Even after realizing there was good fish and bad fish, and that the ones you feed Cid determine if he lives or dies....I still preferred to feed him bad fish on purpose

Because it makes the scene better. If Cid lives, it ruins that whole segment on a dramatic level

Yeah, it's happier if he lives but it has way more impact if he dies.

He's also a complete psycho. He trapped and basically tortured a race of beings to harvest their magic powers and showed like zero remorse for what he did.

Let that fucker die.

Edit: Oh, guess that means he's also responsible for creating Kefka as well too. So there's that as well lol

The scene makes no sense if he dies.

Like Celes verifies he's dead on the bed, then goes to kill herself. Meanwhile as she's doing this, Cid un-dies, has enough strength to get his raft out of the basement, then leaves a note for celes like he already knows she's going to live, then re-dies.

Cid knew Life3/Reraise well before anyone in your party ever did. Facts.

That spell literally only comes from the Phoenix magicite that was only thought to be a myth until Locke finds it

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

It pretty much requires a guide. Cid asks for fish, there are 2-3 fish in the water, you grab them all without thinking. Your only clue that you're doing something wrong is Cid getting progressively worse as you feed him more, but nobody should realize that could be reversed.

IIRC you can view the fish item in your inventory, and it will give you hints like 'a good fish' or 'a rotten fish.' And of course the speed at which the fish moves in the water is indicative of its healthy quality. But like you said, most players aren't going to think to check this.

No. The Palidor magicite (or whatever its retranslated name is) is the only tangible reward to be had on the island, and it appears later on the beach regardless of whether he lives or dies.

Correct. There's a difficult FF VI romhack that gives you a great item if you let the old man live, but FF VI proper doesn't give you anything if you save him.
