yeah, i really hate the subscription-based game thing, especially when the library is several orders of magnitude worse than what we had as far back as the Wii's VC

they say they did away with it because they didn't want us paying for the same games over and over again. well gee assholes, so instead of carrying over our digital purchases to work on the next system like xbox and playstation do, you just gut the entire service?? then throw fits over emulation and sountrack rips, naturally

"fuck you, buy our games!"
then SELL them
"fuck you"

This. Square has the keys for that, and the subscription-based model that the Switch uses means that very few of the big third party titles will appear on it because those publishers would be essentially giving those games away for free.

Because a large amount of assets and more importantly music is owned by Square Enix

Square developed the game and still has some hold on it, because otherwise, I don't doubt that it would have long since been put onto the SNES Online service (but then again, the NES Online is oddly missing Mach Rider and Urban Champion even to this day...). Plus, the few times Geno showed up outside of that game (as a cameo in the original Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, which was removed in the remake of said game, and via the Mii Costume in Smash), Square-Enix is always credited as the rights-holder.

It's not. It's a Square game that licensed the characters from Nintendo, the same as the Mario + Rabbids games being a Ubisoft game (and why they're able to have it on sale for cheap as opposed to first party Nintendo games).

I knew it would probably never see the light of day on any subscription service, which is why I jumped on the opportunity to buy a physical cartridge of it at my local store when I had a coupon. I think I paid $40 for it about 5 years ago.

Eventually though, it will probably be remastered and released. Just like what happened with Actraiser and Secret of Mana.

I wish they would release this game along with all of the Pokmon games. They would make tons of money, which is why they wont do it.

The licensing thing probably doesn't matter, Nintendo always does the slow drip feed crap. We only just got EarthBound this year, we'll probably get SMRPG eventually.
