And Doctor Strange 2 and The Batman are in the top five highest grossing movies of the year.

EDIT: Okay I just checked and The Batman was in the top five and it's now number 6 since Wakanda Forever is now number 3.

$700 range isn't exactly all that great anymore, especially when things like BP and Ragnarok did $1.4 and $900 respectively.

COVID isn't that big of an excuse anymore when No Way Home did $2 billion last year.

I read that as Black face Addams Family.

Doctor Strange 2 and The Batman have double the RT score of Black Adam.

It doesn't help that nobody gives a shit about Black Adam. People would show up to a mediocre Batman movie. People aren't going to show up for superhero characters with mediocre review scores that no one knows about. See Morbius, The Eternals and Black Adam.

Even then we're still talking about movies that are making hundreds of millions of dollars. They just suck at making money for being superhero movies.

I feel bad for Dwayne Johnson. The studio waited too long. This was his dream movie. He tried to get it made for like 20 years. But by the time he finally convinced them to make it, it was too late. Thiw movie probably would have been a hit 20 years ago

These last past two months there's been absolutely nothing to see in theaters. Had some folks in town for Thanksgiving and went out with a girlie friend the other week and we tried to look up movies but they all look dreadful

That's shame. It looked like it was pretty decent.

Maybe it's superhero fatigue. But as others have said, we've had record-breaking superhero movies this year.

Maybe it's fatigue with The Rock. He's everywhere and most of his movies are awful. If the next Rock movie is a huge success, we'll know it's not that.

Maybe it's simply that Guardians of the Galaxy was an exception and people mostly don't care about superheroes they don't know. You put a raccoon with a gun in any movie and it'll sell.

Maybe it's that Black Adam is an antihero/villain protagonist and that's not what people are looking for.

There are so many variables. I don't know where to place the blame.

Marvel has the advantage of the MCU. Unless the movie gets really bad reviews I think people are more open minded compared to basically any other Hollywood blockbuster now. But if there's too much stuff like The Eternals that will run out of steam too.

Rock's most interesting and popular role is what? The guy in Jumanji? Hobbs? Doesn't help that he constantly pairs himself with Kevin Hart too so even that feels a bit tired.

The only actor that isn't playing themself is Gary Oldman

It just looks kinda generic.

Like I'm sure it'll be good fun, but the DC movies are at their best when they're being experimental.

There's a lot of debate lately about the change in Hollywood that the money is in IP instead of stars and that this may be bad.

Now I think overall that mindset has shifted but a lot of times stuff like this is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Like look at The Rock. The guy clearly does have some level of star power.

It's like damn Dwayne. You've probably got a lot more power and influence in Hollywood compared to most actors. Yet this is what you're choosing to bankroll.

The Rock to me just feels like a guy who is laser focused on extending his brand to also make money on stuff like his energy drinks or gym equipment or whatever else. I dunno I feel like he'd be even more popular if he tried to go out of his comfort zone a bit more. He's a charismatic and fun guy.

I think I prefer Cena because he actually is willing to make an ass of himself on camera. There's stuff in Peacemaker and Cockblockers I can't imagine The Rock doing. He's nowhere near as big of a star though.

It's weird because The Rock was a much better performer in wrestling.

Meanwhile you've got Batista dropping an amazing scene out of nowhere in Blade Runner and being in the massively successful Guardians of the Galaxy but all he wants to do is be in a Gears of War movie. The dude was willing to even burn bridges with Disney if they fired James Gunn.

So a Scorpion King remake instead of the one Scorpion King movie that needed to be made? Nonsense.

**If youre wondering, it would be the Scorpion King movie about the unknown enemy who kicked the shit out of The Rock and his army of bad asses to the degree that they sold their souls for revenge.

I'll be honest, the Rock shilling so, so hard for this movie turned me off of it. It just seemed so desperate.

There's multiple issues here:

• New unfamiliar character
• Villain changed to be a Hero
• Made good money, but it's budget was bloated
• Superhero Fatigue
• The Rock's star power is also fading with time
• Johnson doesn't really stray from his character

Black is supposed to be Shazams arch nemesis, but no attachment was attempted beyond his power origin. DC had a chance to make this a hero corrupted story, by building sympathy for Adams intentions and bucking the MCU formula. This could've been similar to MCU fans sympathizing with Killmonger. They unfortunately didn't and gave us a very wonky movie. The best parts were those hints of Black Adam doing the non-hero things.

There has been a lot of updates to this since then and it's really quite funny.

All of this, including a B+ CinemaScore, is good enough for Black Adam to be a franchise starter (read: the first Captain America made $370M WW). As far as how the DC universe will be mapped out, well know more early next year when the studios new heads Peter Safran and James Gunn unveil the news.

Of course what that doesn't mention is that Captain America had a significantly smaller budget and released before the Marvel craze really hit into full gear.

It doesn't even contradict the article either. The Variety article was about it being a theatrical loss. Which it is. Making up the money later doesn't contradict that claim at all.

New reports have since come out today that there are discussions that basically everything in the DCEU might get scrapped including Black Adam.
