I remember watching a decent amount of episodes around the time it came out and hating everything except maybe Tom Kenny voicing The Ice King.

There are plenty of things that I like that are considered popular, but okay.

It's got its moments, but I'm not big on the art style, sense of humor, or its vocabulary.

The show completely changes a few seasons in and introduces continuity, character development and storybuilding.

But it has like an incredibly deep lore and characters that evolve as the show go goes on and lots of personal relationships that have ups and downs and you literally see the main character turn from a boy to a man

that all seems pretty substantive to me

I appreciate them taking an overarching story approach to the the overall narrative and attempting to do things like character growth throughout the show. I really dig that kind of approach to telling a story Western cartoons. I feel like we don't see enough of it.

Too bad none of the fucking characters were likable or interesting to begin with...

Bob's burgers is harmless fun. ATHF is responsible for some of the funniest moments in tv history, and a bunch of quotes that are still fun to say.

I liked the show well enough (watched it up through s5 or so), but it never really hooked me while it was airing.

Then one I day I happened to rewatch "I Remember You" after having recently finished caring for my Alzheimer's-afflicted grandfather for two of the worst years of my life. Talk about a haymaker to the feels. The specific moment where the Ice King is shooting icicles at the ceiling wailing 'why can't anyone help me?!' was so eerily similar to something my grandfather said in one of his rare moments of self-aware lucidity that I almost broke down on the spot.

I ought to give the show a full rewatch one of these days.

Flapjack was by far the best Cartoon Network show from that time period (well, a little bit before but still)

Adventure Time is among the best things Cartoon Network ever made.

I think Princess Bubblegum is my favorite character arc of the show.

i wish i liked it, but for whatever reason it just never clicked with me. i loved the original pilot though

I never even gave Steven Universe because it reminded too much me of Adventure Time. I had a friend who really liked SU at one point, but now he really doesn't like how the show turned out or something like that and he's really soured on the series. Sounds like I made the right decision!

Adventure time was amazing for a while with some great character arcs. It was really fun too at the time. One of the best cartoons in a long time back then.

As soon as it stopped being anything but a merchandise machine though, it really fell apart. It was so sad too.

You should try making positive topics about things you like instead of making negative topics about things you know other people like just to piss them off

It never caught my interest. Only ever tried to watch a couple episodes, but it just felt like every other Cartoon Network show at the time. I also wasn't watching much of cartoons in general back then, so maybe it was just a bad time for me.

I knew it was popular, but not so much people would get defensive over someone saying they didn't like it.

cartoon network/adult swims brand of "look at how weird and off-putting we are!" never appealed to me, and when they started tossing absurdism in the mix along with that my mild disinterest became active dislike

Yeah, I missed that post. AT didn't inspire RS. As you said, I recall them premiering pretty much at the same time. As super formulaic as most episodes were, I did like Regular Show quite a bit.

Having watched Venture Bros since its first airing, nothing else really compares cartoon wise tbh. Although I am a bit upset at myself for not giving adventure time a chance back then. Maybe I should give it a go.
