which console had better jrpg's?

In past discussions, it seems like most of CE agrees that the golden age of the jrpg was SNES and PS1

But which was the better of those 2?

PS1 and it's not even close.

There's some great SNES RPGs, but they're not on par with games like FF7, FF9, The Legend of Dragoon, Suikoden 1 and 2, Xenogears, Lunar: SSSC, Chrono Cross etc.

SNES, easily. Too many PS1 JRPGs tried to reinvent the wheel and failed miserably. Oddly enough, the best ones on that console were either 2D or isometric.

SNES had higher highs imo, but ps1 had consistently top tier jrpgs and we didn't really have to worry about them coming out in English

I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.

SNES had better jrpgs but PS1 had more good JRPGs.

PS1. The number of absolutely stellar games seals it.

Snes has Earthbound, CT, and FF6, and that's a hell of a lineup, but IMO it can't compete.

Well if you include Japanese games, there were some rpgs we never got. Like the original game that Trials of Mana is a remake of

The PS1 is the same. It's just that the PS1 didn't have the level of "we will never move on" like the SNES did so many didn't get translated. Like, we only recently got Square's really crappy dating Mario Party clone. With how thirsty this board is you would have thought it didn't exist.

That's a pretty difficult question.

SNES had some great games like Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, Lufia II, Secret and Trials of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy III (VI) and many others.

PS1 had Legend of Legaia, The Legend of Dragoon, Arc the Lad I-III, Final Fantasy VII-IX, Wild Arms 1 and 2, Breath of Fire III and IV, and many others.

I honestly don't know which I'd say was better.
