States that chose to not expand medicaid did so at the expense of their most vulnerable populations. Adopting the expansion of medicaid provides health insurance to those in extreme poverty at no cost to enrollees.

Medicaid expansion is linked to earlier detection, diagnosis, and treatment of serious medical conditions, such as a reduction in the number of uninsured patients with breast cancer and a decrease in late-stage breast cancer detection.
