Literally everyone was doing some sort of physical conditioning. Even Naruto's loser ass was doing calisthenics in his bedroom. And it doesn't matter how much more of a powerhouse Lee is compared to the other students, a bunch of people punching and kicking you still hurts like shit regardless of how strong you are.
