I knocked on his door a couple times and eventually he stirred and got up, but he just moved to sleeping on the couch instead.

This is not the first time this has happened; I feel confident in saying he did not.

I used to sleep through my alarms and show up late to work when I was a freshman in college and didn't really care. Honestly surprised I didn't get fired. But if he woke up and moved to the couch and went back to sleep, that's a level of not caring that I never reached.

I have a separate alarm that I keep out of arms reach in order to force myself to physically get up, otherwise all bets are off. I cant sleep through the noise, but I can turn an alarm off and fall back asleep so fast that I have no memory of it afterward. Back in school I was convinced my alarm was broken.

I remember when I had a roommate it was kind of my business if he slacked off at work. How would he pay his share of the rent and utilities if he got fired?

Oh God, I have PST from those sounds.
The actual classic '80s Alarm Clock sound is godawful.

~I can actually remember the old table clocks with the bells.
They were at least somewhat endearing. If not for just mechanics of them.

Luckily my internal clock is pretty good...or my cat just wakes me up.

Yeah this is how it is for me as well. When I was in school, my alarm clock was right next to my bed. I would turn it off while half sleep and roll back over. Most times I didn't even remember my alarm going off.

Now, my alarm is on the other side of the room. I don't sleep through it that way.

He has issues with insomnia. This is not the first time he's woken up in the evening.

I worked overnights for a long time.
Sleeping though the day is a thing.
...And in a way I kinda like it, being a night owl.
It always pissed me off when people used to say, "You work nights, so you get your day to yourself"
That's bull shit.

But ya, I've always had sleep issues. Insomnia sucks.
