I see it

Jimmy seems to be constantly unaware that his actions have consequences and his schemes hurt everyone else

Then he acts sad and horrified once he hurts people.

Chuck flat out says this. He really does act like he lives in a TV show and once he can't see someone they're out of the scene and therefore fine.

Jimmy's not perfect, but Chuck secretly sabotaging his law career is just as much a reason he became Saul Goodman. He could've given him a job with HHM and have him work with elderly clients and he would've done great but Chuck had to be petty and smiteful.

People are way too harsh on Chuck just because the camera is behind Saul.

Major spoiler ahead

Saul has been breaking the law and scamming people all his life. Chuck had no reason to risk HHM's reputation by hiring Jimmy and then Jimmy pulls the shit he did at Davis and Main.

Chuck really was not wrong about Jimmy at any point. We see it outright, he constantly breaks the law, he constantly scams people, takes short-cuts, hurts people. He cannot see that his actions have consequences.

Lest we forget, Saul ends up the cornerstone of a meth drug empire.

The "Being popular among elderly cilents" was something neither Chuck or Jimmy knew at the time and Chuck would be paranoid that Jimmy would scam them. Which he did. His sandpiper derailment (that he did twice) cost those old folks a bundle of cash just so Jimmy could get rich quick.

The only reason Jimmy isn't in prison as a registered sex offender is because Chuck bent the law to get him out of there.

The pilot of the show is Jimmy setting up a crime to trick a cilent into hiring him.

It's cowardly that Chuck never had the balls to tell Jimmy to his face and didn't help him get work outside of HMM. But really nothing Chuck did was unreasonable and if you look at the events of the story objectively rather than as a fan of BB and BCS in a fictional fantasy world, it's hard to see how Chuck was wrong about Jimmy.

Hell Chuck was the one who sworn in Jimmy as an attorney.

I think any "Jimmy could have made it legit if only given the chance" goes out the window when you consider he got the chance at Davis and Main on a case he was heavily involved with, having the support of Kim, Howard, Davis and Omar and getting a huge paycheck and company car.... And quit because he missed scamming people and "didn't fit" in with the stuffed shirts.

It's the same as Walt refusing to take the money from the guy who cucked him. It instantly removes any excuses he might have had for his actions and reveals his actions are all the result of his macho pride.

Chuck is a very flawed human being and can be quite nasty to Jimmy and Ernie. But he wasn't wrong. Everything he said was true. He is not an excuse for Jimmy's constant criminal actions.
