Being a GM of a store would be cool anyways but I am a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania employee because this state still runs on the old "state store" system so this is actually my retirement job.

I got a "promotion" to be the GM of the slowest store in the district. I used quotes because my current level of assistant manager is equal to that level of GM. I don't mind the no pay increase only because while I will have more GM responsibilities, this is the kinda store where you get a customer every 5 minutes and it's slow, so I can learn and get a handle on things in a much more relaxed environment than where I work now.

So, I was day dreaming that if I got this store I would make it my own place where I spread positive messages and vibes and all employees and customers are treated with respect. This place is going to be a Zone of Positivity...

Anyways, a year ago in this company I was just a ground level "permanent part timer" getting 25-32 hours a week. I did that for a few years, and then less than a year out from that, here we are. My own dang store.

I am pretty excited for this.

That sounds really nice. All the benefits of a government employee and very little work.

Well this is a slow store, inherently there is a lot of work to be done but without a constant stream of customers it wont be so bad.

What excites me the most is not having to listen to people day in and day out as the GM...I set the random rules and quirks of the store. And I get to set up my own office. A lot of offices have dumb things hanging up like out of date references and security camera photos of people who stole stuff years ago from completely different stores. I can do whatever the fuck I want in some ways, and boy that makes me happy.

Plus I plan on hanging up some of the photos I have taken inside liquor stores....until somebody tells me to take 'em down, if they ever do. This one isn't necessarily a candidate for being on display because it has some issues, but just an idea of what i'm talkin' about

I wouldnt care if its less work, if the pay was the same, i would have told them to suck lemons.

I will pray that your new job is successful.

So I get what people are saying about no increase, but at the same time this store is much slower with less going on, so for the same rate of pay my workload is going to be cut in half, so I consider it worth it in a sense....it's just the job titles the Commonwealth uses. Assistant of my current grade is equal to a GM of a store like the one I am going to be at, hence no extra pay. However, because my workload is going to be significantly less and I won't have to listen to people all day telling me what to do, I see a lot of upside in this. Even things like the hours of operation are better. My current store is 11-7 sundays and 9-9 the rest of the week. This store is closed sundays and 11-7 every other day, so I won't have to wake up super early sans truck day, I won't have to work all that late, and I guaranteed have every Sunday off by default. Some extra GM responsibilities, but a LOT of things I don't have to worry about working in a small hole in the wall where you get customers every 5 minutes or more, so once I get the hang of the GM-specific stuff, there should be a lot less work and headache to go around vs my current store.

Thats a lot of words to say youre okay with being used.

I'm okay with 50%+ less work at this new store. That's really what it boils down to from my perspective.
