In the state media they take any examples of pro-capitalist (or at least anti-current Russian Government) who are fat, double bonus points if they live outside the Russian mainland and go "Look at this rich fat out of touch asshole who is telling YOU and YOUR KIDS what Special Military Operations/Laws/Policies Russia can and can't do while they eat AMERICAN CAKES and JELLIES!"

And it's pretty effective.

Even in the UK the current PM Boris Johnson (Who for the record is a fatass) responded to criticism about the cost of living skyrocketing the in UK, foodbanks being more needed than other, blatant corruption by the Tories and utter disgrace that is modern day England by going "LOL isn't my opponent fat. Look how fat he is."

And that's not even the worst part, he squealed "Look my opponent defends and supports pedophiles!" at Keir Starmer.

There's a grain of truth to this but the simple fact is it worse now than it has been (at least since the turn of the 20th century) and is getting worse every month, entirely on the side of the Tories who are intentionally leaning into Trumpism and anti-reality messaging.

The notion that Thatcher, like her or not, would be breaking the law with drunken parties and then responding to criticsm of her closing down mines with "LOL ur a fat pedo LUL!" is just ludicrious. Same for Blair or Major or Chamberlain.
