It was "announced" at E3 2018, but I remember people talking about it as far back as early 2017. Then it wasn't even formally shown of until 2021, and isn't getting any gameplay until this weekend (maybe?).

I wonder if theyre gonna stick with the creation club or find some new total garbo way to monetize the game after initial purchase

i cant imagine the creation club stuff ever made them much money

They got away with it though, which is the most important aspect, so they almost assuredly will be looking for ways to monetize it further. Also I'd be willing to bet the Creation club was a larger gain for them than you may think, due in part to the new modding scene for consoles, well perhaps not that new currently. I think console players are more susceptible to paying for mods since again it's relatively new for them and they don't understand how much of it should be free.

I can't wait to find out they're pulling mod support and leaning into the creator club fully.
