I dont mean the novel, but rather a book that plays itself off as being the actual guide.

I'm not aware of one, but I think it works better as a King in Yellow situation. You'll get enough from the book to make a point, but an entire book couldn't possibly do the concept justice.

Not a book, but the website H2G2 is supposed to be a kind of light-hearted Wikipedia, and is run by a foundation that was set up by Douglas Adams.

There's a 'book' like that in the Parasitology series by Mira Grant. It's a very creepy children's book about a pair of kids who go looking for the monster who used to live under their bed, and is a poem from the point of view of the monster, who takes a very parental tone as it instructs the children to abandon everything and come to live with it.

It was also adapted from a filk song the author did about Silent Hill. My signature of many years is a line from it.

There's enough quotes throughout the series to make a good poem, but I'd definitely love to see Don't Go Out Alone as a book in its own right.
