I know there are quite a few collectors here on GameFAQs. What will you do with your collection? Hold ceremony, give it a proper burial?

wasn't this meant to happen with floppy disks in the 2010s? I still have to load fonts off the fuckers for old signage machines and they work fine.

Its estimated they'll last like 100 years if stored somewhere dry and with a reasonably stable temperature.

So no.

I have literally hundreds of PS1 games and not a single one is showing any signs of rotting.

troll topic

Posting crap like this without any proof. I'm shocked the mod posted here didn't just delete the topic...

I get suspended for saying I want to move to a certain state and mark that as trolling....

What?

CD and DVD roms actually have a shelf life, they begin to degrade after so many years. It's called Disc Rot

I do like the fearmongering, a little bit, but this is actually kinda heartening. Although, if you're just keeping them for the sake of collection, the disc quality doesn't matter much anyway.

If this were true when how come I got discs from over 30 years ago that still work fine?

Disc rot is much more of a thing with Laserdiscs and shitty knockoff CDs and DVDs printed on inferior discs.

CD-Rs and CD-RWs have the shortest predicted lifespan (five to 10 years), followed by recorded DVD-RWs (up to 30 years). Recorded CD-RWs and DVD-Rs have a predicted lifetime of 20 to 100 years.

If they start to show signs of rotting, it's already too late.

I noticed a lot of Dreamcast and Sega Saturn games have disc-rot problems. My Sonic 3d blast has bronzing all over it, while a lot of my Saturn games have pinholes.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_rot

I mean there's no set time limit when they will start to degrade but eventually they will, exposure to air and light will eventually break down the chemicals and metals that make up the discs. Some discs types are more resistant than other types though.
