Why?

I really don't know why. I guess I have a deep seated need to be called Greg. Or maybe it's that I'm half-Irish. When I was a kid I always wanted to be Irish. My Mom is Irish, so I guess it runs in the family.

I could have had any other name, but it was part of my parents' plan to have me get the name Greg in honor of my Dad. He's originally from Iowa and was named Robert Gregory. Of course, my Mom decided to give me the last name of the man she loved, but they were both married to other people when they got married. Well, one of them remarried, but I still have the problem of being named Robert Gregory.

In the beginning I did have an Irish name and had thought about changing it. A friend of mine in the Army had gotten the name Greg and I had thought about changing it, too. In the end, though, I couldn't. I just couldn't.

What about the name?

What name are you thinking about? It's easy to figure out the name when I was a kid. I was fascinated with sports and it seemed that everything had a Greg in it. I could always count on that. Since then, things have changed, and my name has changed with them. I'm not all that great at sports anymore and haven't had as much experience with my name. Sometimes I wish that I had never chosen the name Greg.

What are you having trouble with?

You know, I always have trouble spelling my name. My friends have no trouble with it. They always call me Greg. It's the letters that give me trouble. When I call myself Greg it is always a struggle.

That's really it. I just can't spell my name. How hard is it to spell? It's just the letter Q, the letter C, and the letter M. That's about it.

That's the only trouble? Now, I know that sounds strange, but it's the truth. What I really want to say is you've got a good name. You know that, don't you? If you had chosen another name, or even just a different name, it would have been a much bigger problem.

You wouldn't have been any different and wouldn't have gotten any more trouble. My advice is to stick with the name you already have. It's a good name. You already have a problem spelling it. Now you won't have any more.
