I know it means something like 'horny' in some countries but in the U.S. it's usually short for "Randall". I worked with a guy named Randall once and we never called him Randy.

I've known two guys named Leslie. They both went by Les.

In the case of one guy, we worked with a woman also named Leslie and it became confusing sometimes especially for new hires. We had to use pronouns very carefully.
