If you ever want to know more about TVs than anybody asked, try these reviews. They have a budget pick Midway down, or you can kinda dig through the site for a few more options.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/70-75-77-inch

IIRC, though, budget TVs are usually pretty comparable. I think picking a brand you like or just searching for good customer reviews is probably enough for that.

Depends on the budget. If you're going cheap, I would advise you make sure you can turn the HDR off because shitty HDR can really fuck with some streaming apps. Especially Disney+.

All the TVs in my house are the 55 inch TCLs that use roku. I hate HDR though because it darkens everything.

il look at that link rn

When I was shopping for a TV last year, the general sentiment I found was that bigger TV brands (particularly Samsung) have pretty shitty offerings in comparison to smaller competitors like TCL and Vizio these days.

Still top of the high end, but basically taking advantage of the brand to rip people off on Black Friday for the cheap TVs.

This is probably because your maximum screen brightness is too low. Many TVs that claim to have HDR only go up to like 300 or 400 nits, but shows on streaming apps will be calibrated expecting a maximum of 1000 nits. So the TV will take in that 1000 nit signal and shove it down to 400 nits, and scale everything else accordingly.

As you might expect, it makes everything look like shit. It's not as bad in gaming because you typically calibrate the brightness at the system level, but with streaming apps it's difficult to do. I have to watch shows through my playstation instead of my built in TV aps because I can't turn off the terrible HDR.

Ahh, I think you're right, actually. My last TV was high end I got last year, so it's been a good while since I've shopped specifically for a cheapo. But I do remember while I was researching that I did see the best budget ones are all guys like Vizio or TCL, who are specifically targeting that category.

Id say just go to the store and take a look and see which ones you like.

Though, store mode isnt always the best judge of quality. But it sounds like youre not looking for anything crazy.
