TL;DR: AT&T TV switched to DirecTV Stream, made my sports streaming access stop working, did nothing about it, then tried to charge me $174 to get out of the contract. I argued my case and got a refund.

Their service is hot garbage. It was mostly fine when it was AT&T TV. They changed it to DirecTV Stream a few months ago.

I had a cable box in my living room and didn't want to pay for another one so I just used apps on the smart TV in my bedroom to watch stuff in that room. If the Cowboys were playing on ESPN, I would just use the ESPN app, sign in with my AT&T TV credentials, and stream the game on that TV.

That stopped working after they switched the authentication page to DirecTV. Their sign in page would say my account wasn't authorized. So I called them.

The guy on the phone just wasn't getting it at all. He kept saying I had to pay for NFL Sunday Ticket for that to work. I was never paying for that, but was always able to do this since I signed up for service in March. Then he accused me of trying to get NFL Sunday Ticket for free. I asked for a supervisor because I got tired of explaining the problem over and over.

The supervisor agreed there was a problem. He said he would have to escalate the issue and that someone would call me back with an update in a couple days.

A week goes by, no call back. The same problem was still happening, so I called them back. They didn't have any record of an escalation request. They had me speak to supervisor again and we identified the problem again.

I just cancelled the service that day instead of continuing to wait on them to do nothing. They then said I was still under contract and would have to pay a $174 cancellation fee. I told them I would dispute it because they're the ones who made that streaming access stop worrying. They technically changed the contract without my authorization.

I called earlier this month to verify that I didn't have to pay the cancellation fee. They said there were no more pending charges. I noticed an email from them today saying they removed my access. Then I got a $260 charge on my credit card.

I made the same argument again about them changing the contract and they refunded the $174 cancellation fee.

I'm so glad streaming TV services exist. It completely removes the concern of no other quality TV providers having physical lines run in the area. The internet is great.
