Man talk about surprise of the year. When this first got revealed at E3 I thought it looked promising, but a little rough in spots. Actually I probably still thought that like a month before release when they showed it again. The final product ended up being pretty great though.

Early on the combat does start a little simple and it's very cutscene heavy sometimes going as long as 45 minutes between gameplay segments. However the characters and story were strong and kept me engaged. As the game went on the pacing becomes more even and the combat continues to improve as you unlock more abilities for each guardian. The story however continues to stay strong and then in the second half really takes off into threats that could wipe out the entire universe and it's exciting to see what happens next. The game itself is fairly linear you just go chapter by chapter and some light mass effect-ish elements are thrown in there with forming bonds with your fellow guardians and dialogue decisions that can affect a handful of cutscenes in the final chapters.

The platinum itself can be kinda tricky if you're not careful. Beside completing the story, teaching everyone all their abilities and killing enemies with the guardians various skills, you have to find all the hidden collectibles and costumes in one go because if you try going back with chapter select for any you missed it actually takes you back to where you were at that exact moment in time and acts like you never collected anything that came after that.

Still not too bad if you're thorough and check every area for hidden items. If you're nervous about it though you can just keep a list of collectibles handy and find them as you go.

Definitely worth a check out and I hear it'll be $30 on Black Friday so I recommend playing it for sure!
