My HOA just responded via email to say they don't have any updates on the exception yet. They sent the exception request to the "declarant builder." I sent a reply asking if there is an expected timeline on when they should respond.

I feel like they shouldn't have a say over whether I can do this in the first place. The HOA doesn't contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of my roof and it's not like I'm trying to build another house on top of my house.

YES

That's the other thing I've been trying to argue. Honestly, as great as solar panels are, they don't even look as good as solar tiles where your whole roof is a single color.

OK, so I've finished the call. They wanted me to send the relevant info. They're apparently in brainstorming mode for legislation to bring to the next session in 2023 and they believe this is a sensible thing to change since solar roofs are newer than the law.

The HOA says the declarant builder has 30 days to respond. The project is still in the permitting process, so I've got time.
