Maybe they have a smartphone or what have you, but a desktop or laptop computer is foreign to them. Often these are people for whom English is not their first language, which compounds the trouble on my end.

Today I had a guy in his 50s or so tell me he'd never used a computer before, and when I showed him to his seat he said "oh, it's all buttons."

It doesn't make them bad people or anything, it's just a bit jarring for me.

What kind of field do you work in?

I can't say I've ever had this experience, but I work in IT at an IT based organization, so it wouldn't make much sense if I did, lol.

We run sports for the students at the school
I literally had to explain to a 20 year old who was training the under 15s that she had to use the mouse.
She wasn't Irish and apparently at her last job in whatever country, everything was done by phone. Computers never existed so she had no clue that left click and right click were a thing.

I did tech support for Frontier around the time they bought lines from Verizon in West Virginia. I talked to multiple customers who couldn't read. I was confused about what they were going to use a computer for.

While it would make using a computer much harder, they could still learn to use photoshop or something I'm sure if they're taught how to.

I can't read Japanese, but I played Japanese RPG maker games enough to recognize what characters together say "save" and "load" even if I don't know why they stand for that. Also, a lot of things are the same between games, so you just get used to things and can find them pretty easily even if you can't read.
